This explains ( your questions) the reasons that Tariff threats on Canada and Mexico. It’s not so much economic. It’s because of border organized crime (Cartels who run Mexico because of government corruption), Fentanyl, and Immigration.

By the way, the Mexican government has asked for 30 days before the tariffs are put into action (and been granted), so that they can move military personnel to the border. No new messages from Canada, although media reports are that Trudeau and Trump have talked, and will talk again.

My favorite past time since our basketball team kinda sucks, is to watch the fear mongering at everything Trump does or says, then to watch all of the rivers of tears flow from those who do the fear mongering, after Trump and his policies win. It is a great time, much like watching kids cry when their favorite team loses, but 10 times more fun to watch.

I'm sure Trump will make a mistake or two while refurbishing our country to its original intended condition. That's to be expected even if your refurbishing an old car. But Trump seems to wheel and deal pretty effectively for the most part.

I haven't been following closely, but is there a semi-logical reason for slapping Canada and Mexico with 25% and China only 10%? I thought China was the great threat and the one that abuses trade or some such.

China already has a 25% tariff - they now have a 35% tariff (additional 10%)

It's just a way to tax everyone - China doesn't pay - US consumers do.

I would say 90% of the goods in Walmart - Home Depot - Lowes - Harbor Freight - Costco - Etc will increase in price

That makes more sense. It's still all dumb, but at least the percentages make more sense.

Some folks just can't see what Trump does. He has been successful in business because of his ability to negotiate. His tariffs are how he leverages negotiations. What good is negotiating something if you don't have anything to leverage.

I guess there are 2 ways to negotiate. Sit down and talk, take a break, agree to some stuff. Say that both sides got some of what they want and progress forward....

Then there's Trump's way.

I think it is just Trump knowing that he holds the cards and at least in Canada, Trudeau is on his way out and he has no support. I'm not sure what Mexico's leader's popularity is, but Mexico has a lot of issues.
