  • Chinese Hacking of U.S. Continues - Telecoms and Now U.S. Treasury

The White House said Friday that a ninth U.S. telecommunications company has been hacked as part of a Chinese espionage campaign, but China has denied responsibility.

The White House said Friday that a ninth U.S. telecommunications company has been hacked as part of a Chinese espionage campaign that gave the country's officials access to private texts and phone conversations of Americans.

The Biden administration said earlier this month that at least eight telecommunications companies and dozens of nations had been impacted by the Chinese hacking operation known as Salt Typhoon.

On Friday, deputy national security adviser Anne Neuberger told reporters that a ninth victim had been identified after the administration released guidance to companies about how to locate Chinese hackers in their networks.
A CCP-affiliated hacker reportedly targeted the U.S. Treasury Department in a "major incident," this month, gaining access to workstations and sensitive documents.

Chinese government recently hacked the U.S. Treasury Department in a "major incident," officials announced on Monday.

    Chinese response

“China consistently opposes all forms of hacking, and we are even more opposed to the dissemination of false information against China for political purposes.”

I don't trust the Chinese, but I also don't trust our government to be honest about virtually anything and could see them using China as a boogeyman of sorts for anything and everything.

If the US wants to stop hacking from China and/or others, do a ****ing better job of IT security and such.

Maybe we need some highly skilled foreigners to come over and tighten that **** up.

I don't really understand why we ever thought that Chinese or Russia would ever be our friend.

        1. I believe the Treasury department boasted that they had made the most DEI hires of anybody. Maybe u hire because they are qualified, not because they are pedophiles and cross dressers.

        2. IT organizations are crap. Companies are outsourcing their IT organization to the lowest bidders. So you get what you pay for.

Let's dispense with the "highly skilled." What really happens is that companies hire the "highly educated," and then they are trained through training classes, learning workflows/processes, and OJT. They then become "highly skilled".
