I don't know if that disdain applies to every member of Congress but it probably applies to a majority. But I absolutely agree the members of congress deserve no extra reverence or respect simply for being in congress. The same applies to the administrations. Any respect must be earned and cultivated. As it is more have managed to earn our disdain instead of any respect.

I can agree with this for the most part. I don't think I've ever adored a politician, but I have respected a few. Very few, but there are some who are fairly consistent with their beliefs and don't always toe the party line. I don't care if I agree with them or not sometimes, I can respect some of them for being fairly principled.
