In a high-profile presser on the economy last Friday, President Obama’s central proposal was to hire more public employees. Then, in his weekly address, he argued that hiring more public school teachers would allow the U.S. to educate its way to prosperity. So… who’s right?

I have no idea how the figures are running today, but I seriously doubt it has changed much.
In the late 1980's, Transportation (busing) accounted for over 45% of the entire school budget. Not teacher's salaries, but Transportation.
Just another area added in the last 50 years negating the family's responsibility for their children. In this case, they can't even be bothered or responsible for getting them to school.
Put the responsibility for our children back in the lap of the parent where it belongs and there is tons of money for education.
