  • Twitter Layoffs 50%

Mass layoffs have begun at Twitter, where reports suggest upward of 50% of the social media site’s jobs ― roughly 3,700 ― could be eliminated.

Employees received a message Thursday evening notifying them that layoffs were beginning, according to The New York Times. They were told not to come to the office on Friday.

I am curious to see what kind of shape Twitter takes under Elon.

There was a lot of push back from employees as Musk’s take over bid has been happening. For example, Musk told them they would not be working from home, and many protested, and other things too. He is paying out a lot of money severance payments. He evidently has sensed an opposition, and he wants to change the culture from the status quo to employees who are open to changes.

Isn’t a bunch of this due to automated content moderation?

If I were Musk, I'd probably focus on employees in states that are union friendly.

Not sure how one makes these typenof decisions so quickly.

it would be interesting to see the demographics of those kept and those that left. Maybe he whacked the devil out of the executives. But there are EO considerations, skill considerations, location considerations, work in process issues, ects. Maybe he whacked entire departments. I don't know, maybe he has spent the past months planning this by looking HR & other data to make this something other than random.

It almost certainly wasn’t random. It is a common practice for a recently purchased, unprofitable company, to have a percentage cut across the board as well as a cut of whole departments.

Barri Weiss put out earlier that Dr. Jay Bhattacharya from Stanford was shadowbanned, and was trends blacklisted, because he went against Dr. Fauci and said that school lock downs would hurt children.

Twitter has said for over a year, that no shadowbanning or blacklists happened.
