  • Daylight Saving Time is Dumb and Deadly and should be repealed.

It's safe to "fall back," but when daylight saving time resumes in spring, it will bring an increase in heart attack risk.

In Sweden, researchers found an average 6.7 percent greater risk of heart attack in the three days after the spring change. Inspired by that finding, a group of U.S. researchers conducted their own study and determined that heart attack risk jumped 24 percent the Monday after switching over to daylight saving time. That risk then tapered off over the remainder of the week.

By contrast, risk for heart attack dropped 21 percent on the Tuesday after the fall time change.
Daylight-saving time may seem like a harmless shift. But doctors say it has deadly consequences, increasing risks of heart attacks, and car accidents.

    Daylight-saving time is a killer.

The annual ritual in which we "gain" an hour of evening light in the summertime by pushing the clocks forward one hour each spring may seem like a harmless shift.

But every year on the Monday after the switch, hospitals report a 24% spike in heart-attack visits around the US.

Just a coincidence? Probably not. Doctors see an opposite trend each fall: The day after we turn back the clocks, heart attack visits drop 21% as many people enjoy a little extra pillow time.
Everybody knows that Monday has a significant increased risk for people who are prone to cardiac issues. Add in DST and you're asking for trouble. I'm still having trouble sleeping at night. Please, no more.

I don't know why we still practice this archaic tradition or whatever the hell you want to call it. Just get on standard time and stay.

Clock changing is dumb as hell.

Sounds like it evens out to me.

Well that's one way to look at it.

The reality is, morning shocks are hard on the ticker. One of the best pieces of health advice you'll ever receive is to get up at the same time every day no matter what. But who doesn't like sleeping in on Saturday a little bit...

I’ve also heard that daylight savings time year round makes it a little bit more risky for children waiting at the bus stop, with the darker mornings.

They should change school hours, not the clock.

I agree changing the clock is dumb, but most of the year is DST, so moving to Standard Time that is really the dumb part. I like more light in the evenings.

We almost have attained unity in this thread. I think a thread title change to "Time Changes are Dumb" will do the trick.

Laughed my ass off on the first video. And it also triggered a memory of a conversation I just had the other day w/ a friend. I really think we've slowed down in the consumer technology space. My phone is so big it won't even fit in my pocket yet I can discern no material advantage over its predecessor which was like 3 yr. old tech. All the buttons are in different places, the software is different, but it's mostly just an annoyance to get the phone working like my old one. 5G is faster, but 4G was sufficient for my needs. I'm not sitting in parking loads stroking it to porn. The paradigm is going to have to change to continue at the same pace we used to enjoy. Phones should be implanted chips by now with hologram menus.

I'm carrying a freakin' lunchbox in my pocket atm that's likely sterilizing my left nut. Oh well...

I actually enjoy evenings and don't need sunlight at 9pm.
