Biden recommended they not attempt the Bin Laden Raid and was in the majority of advisors who where against the Military. Only people recommending it was the Military and Leon Panetta.

The official said many in the room were worried about losing their jobs should the mission go wrong.

Got to give props to Obama for knowing when his advisors are wrong and for doing the right thing. But then again, if he had not okayed it, it would have came out and the political fire-storm would have been huge and his reelection would have been hurt.

The only reason there wasn't much backlash from the world was that Bin Laden was actually killed.

Could you imagine the repercussions if the mission went wrong, and he wasn't there, or escaped. Or the whole seal team and pilots were killed, etc. All while operating without authority in another country.

I'm definitely not agreeing with or disagreeing with Biden or the other politicians, but I can definitely see where they're coming from with that decision.

To my knowledge, the only operations done in Pakistan are drone strikes, with minimal troops on the ground. That was the first multi-team special forces operation with multi-helicopter transport. Then again, top secret operations are a called top secret for a reason, maybe they do it all the time?

U.S. forces have been operating in Pakistan since 9-11 and have secret bases. You can also find in the public domain stories about U.S. raids into Pakistan from Afghanistan.

The Bin Laden raid though showed that Pakistan (military) was not honest brokers (with the U.S. or their civilian government) and it also embarrassed their military. But drone strike continue....

From the insider account I read, Panetta made the call, essentially ignoring Obama's wishes. Why do you think he was called off the golf course? Obama has a close female adviser who's name escapes me, but she pretty much calls the shots and was reportedly furious with Panetta since she advised the President not to do it. From the insider's account her advice was based on how it would hurt Obama's image if things went wrong.

Based on my observations of this Administration over the past 3 years, Royal’s account rings true. I think y'all are buying into some "theories" that just don't add up. I think this is one of Obama's success stories and that's all there is to it. Like him or not, at least be honest and give him credit when he does do the right thing. Shouldn't be hard, there aren't many things to applaud him for.
