The point of the article is to claim that Obama is greedy (more greedy than Romney, at least).
The point of this thread is to say that Obama is a hypocrite.

The evidence (percentage of total income given to charity, as reported on tax returns) doesn't really support either claim.

a) It's absurd to compare what someone who 'earned' 300k/year with someone who 'earned' 20mil/year. Would there be any point in comparing family spending patterns between a household earning 25k/year and one earning 300k/year? No.

b) Reported charitable giving as a percentage of taxable income is an unbelievably poor single marker of 'greed'.

c) I'm pretty sure that Romney gave quite a bit of his money to a cult. ;-)

You know, I can't stand Obama's ideological thinking, but I agree with you on this. These type of arguments are microscopic in nature, looking only at a person's revenue.

What about a person's debt load? What if Fred made $1M last year, but had to spend every dollar he had and take out an additional loan for $5M to launch that business that gave him that income. It's also possible that the income is a one shot deal and he's still far short of paying off that note (for example all of that income came from sales of a book that fell far short of expectations). Can you see where Fred would be more eager to pay his loan payment, house payment, and kid's grocery bills than to give to charity that year?

The point is just because you know someone's income, you don't necessarily know what their real financial situation is.
