Do not rely on the politicians, and if they don't do right, even if they're "your" politicians, get them the hell out.

And cue 'Cold any minute for his personal breakdown of this Congressional elect.
So, I'm writing this with the thought it will trigger you (not that I'm trying to, but you seem to be very raw emotionally these days), but corruption is not a value restricted to one side of politics, but rather to both sides. I would appreciate it if you could at least try to 1) be more objective and 2) not buy into QAnon propaganda (as Taylor-Greene does).

For instance, read about the head of the "Lawyers for Trump" organization. Currently under one felony indictment, and now under investigation by the FBI. Had his entire republican staff file a whistleblower complaint against him. Ran all of them off. And a republican for good measure.

So if you don't think getting yourself indicted/investigated and so on is not a sign of corruption, I'd kind of like to hear how you context this.

You guys are all about talking about 'woke' people, but mostly (and collectively) you're just a bunch of whiny little bitches.

          Also for 1972Shocker :

We went out and back on the Elk River Trail, starting at the east (dam side) trailhead. It's a pretty amazing trail and not what you'd expect in Kansas, but also pretty difficult. Lots of elevation change and a rough, rocky walking surface. We only went to the 3 mile mark. The six miles took us about 3.5 hours. We were exhausted. It was probably the 2nd hardest hike I've done, after doing 11 miles down and back in the Grand Canyon. It's the only trail we tried, but plan on going back and spending more time there once we get our RV in a year or two. We want to try the other two trail heads (middle and west) as well as the Table Mound trail.

Sounds great. I've been to Elk Falls a couple of times over the years, but never made it over to the hiking trails. Now I fear they are more than I could or should attempt. From what I had read about them they sounded like great trails especially for Kansas. I think your the first person to provide me with a first hand report from experience on the trails.

I’m the one bitching about wokists. The problem with wokies is that they view everything collectively. WuFan said X, I guess everyone thinks X because individualism is verboten in wokistan.

The Senate will have hearings, it is controlled by republicans (unless Trump and Stone keep running their mouths), unless Biden does what Trump did and appoint him illegally (exhibit one is Chad Wolf). I don't think Biden is built like that, I would expect that if there are FACTS, not CRITICISM, they will take a pass.

That's what they should have been doing with some of Trump's cabinet picks, except the Republicans did not do their job. Of course, if you're weak and spineless, it's always easier to do your job when the president is on the other side than it is when the president is on your side.

And painting all democrats (or middle-of-the roaders) as communists, socialists, snowflakes etc. isn't wokistan? I know you can't speak for some of the others, but what is your personal opinion of the use of those perjorative terms?

If I was as soft as some of the folks on this board, I would need a shrink because all the kvetching is giving me a very bad case of low self-esteem, which is coupled by my COVID induced depression.....

I don’t paint all democrats as any of those things. Again, you’re conflating something you read or something you heard and are projecting it onto a group of people you’ve lumped together.

Communist and Socialist isn’t a pejorative. Those are political ideologies that some folks that vote democrat believe. I do find them to be authoritarian ideologies, and if you subscribe to one of them, I would peg you as authoritarian.

Snowflake is a pejorative that I don’t recall using.

Just for the record, I wouldn’t consider you to be any of those things. I’d peg you as an elitist.

I went inside four establishments, including the hotel, a convenience store, WalMart and a pub where we called in our dinner order. The only masks I saw, other than my own, were maybe 10-15% of the customers in WalMart and the WalMart employees. There wasn't even a sign on WalMart's doors, and I thought WalMart corporate made it a mandatory customer policy.

To be fair, their per-capita numbers aren't bad at all (29 cases per thousand residents, compared to 47 state-wide), unless they've had a recent spike that's worse than many other Kansas counties.
You are right on. They don't believe in masks in Independence. Unfortunately for them the virus believes in them as suitable hosts.

I have a good connection in Independence and she relayed some of the tragedies that have gone on there locally. Her own grandfather was in the ICU for a while and many of her family members were quite ill. She also mentioned some rather surprising statistics involving some local youth and cognitive issues after "recovering".

Independence is doing a good job of pretending that "there's no Covid". I wouldn't trust the testing numbers. We've even seen our own membership on this board not get tested when they've exhibited symptoms. If there's no Covid, why get tested?

                      It's just a cold anyways.

For the purposes of this discussion, I have to agree that you are not one of those people saying things, it's others.

So here's a story.....a friend of mine's father (republican and friend of Richard Luger) who set the agricultural banking system in Saudi Arabia was asked by a Republican president to be in a high enough (I believe I was told cabinet level) position that he would need Senate approval. He declined because he did not want to put his family through 'the process' (i.e. background checks and Senate approval). My point is that is a shame, because I think our thought leaders, our most talented, regardless of party affiliation ought to be leading this country. So, I agree. That would, indeed, make me an elitist.

Another small-world tidbit.....his father was associated with University of Evansville (his daughter graduated from there in the last few years).

Exactly correct. You constantly tell stories about privileged people you know and their grandiose adventures, meanwhile, you’re daughter isn’t paid enough as a teacher. You are dealing with problems that only the wealthy seem to care about, all the while using pandering terms (like latinx) that those same people will nod to in agreement, while Latinos and Latinas are just wanting an opportunity for their family.

So why did you vote for Joe Biden?
