Have essential workers (nurses, EMTs, truckers, grocery workers, trashmen, letter carriers) experienced a much higher rate of infection than those who have been sheltering in place? Surely that information is available?Last edited by pinstripers; May 17, 2020, 03:58 PM.

Is it fairly safe to say at this point that IF we could have properly (if "properly", whatever that is, was ever even really possible) isolated and locked down our most vulnerable, our elderly, infirmed, nursing homes etc, when this first started, then everything else we've done has been a solid over-reaction, if not a catastrophic fail?

In at least 14 states, more than half of coronavirus deaths are tied to long-term care facilities for older adults, according to a New York Times database.

Interesting conclusion...
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) found over 450 dead crows on I-35 this past week, and there was concern that they may have died from the Coronavirus.
A veterinary epidemiologist examined the remains of all the crows, and, to everyone's relief, confirmed the problem was NOT Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The cause of death was actually from vehicular impacts. However, during analysis it was noted that varying colors of paints appeared on the bird's beaks and claws. By analyzing these paint residues it was found that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with trucks, while only 2% were killed by cars.
KDOT then hired an Ornithological Behaviorist to determine if there was a cause for the disproportionate percentages of truck kills versus car kills.
The Ornithological Behaviorist quickly concluded that when crows eat road kill, they always have a look-out crow to warn of danger.
They discovered that while all the lookout crows could shout "Cah","Cah" not a single one could shout "Truck"!!!"You Just Want to Slap The #### Outta Some People"

This editorial would seem to support both positions:
https://www.japantimes.co.jp/opinion.../#.Xsq9JGhKhPY
They point out what Wufan says, there is a long history of mistrust and dislike. But it also support's Melvin's position in that China sees a reset in their relationship with Japan as a potentially important strategic imove, therefore they seem to be wanting to do some small things to try to build a better relationship.
