Trees don't scrub carbon from the air? They scrub CO2. What is this discussion about, carbon or CO2, I thought it was the former?
They pull CO2 from the air. Store carbon and spit out the oxygen. The issue isn't that there's too much carbon, it's that carbon stored is burned and released into the atmosphere in the form of carbon dioxide. Well never have more or less carbon on the planet than we have now. But, you know this.

We can create a shitton of C02 but we can't create Carbon. That's alchemy.
      Sorry misspoke. Meant CO2

It's the same effect as a factory manufacturing a product with three stations where each station takes one day to complete their operation:

        Day 1: Station 1 output = 1, Station 2 output = 0, Station 3 output = 0 - Product output 0
        Day 2: Station 1 output = 1, Station 2 output = 1, Station 3 output = 0 - Product output 0
        Day 3: Station 1 output = 1, Station 2 output = 1, Station 3 output = 1 - Product output 0
        Day 4: Station 1 output = 1, Station 2 output = 1, Station 3 output = 1 - Product output 1
        Day 5: Station 1 output = 1, Station 2 output = 1, Station 3 output = 1 - Product output 1
        Day 6: Station 1 output = 1, Station 2 output = 1, Station 3 output = 1 - Product output 1
        Day 7: Station 1 output = 1, Station 2 output = 1, Station 3 output = 1 - Product output 1

You are only getting reduced emissions for 3 days, but on day 4 the same amount of carbon is coming out day after day after day for the rest of eternity. You can keep creating carbon batteries, but they are going to start leaking carbon, one after the other, at the same rate they would have X years ago when they were created. The net effect is identical, the can was just kicked down the road.

Wood in landfills ends up as methane (quite quickly) -- which is much worse than carbon dioxide.

Interestingly, while my science/engineering brain can't get onboard that building with wood will be a net benefit to slow global warming, I also don't care about that. Building with wood is super sustainable and the benefits of bulding with wood over most other raw resources is huge. So we both agree on what's best for society long term, we just have a different reason as to what some of the key benefits are.

Learning a bit more about the methane off gassing. Certainly decomposing wood does it (13 years). Would be interesting to know how much decomposes vs. dries out, buried etc...more time than I can spend in the next day or two .

              • Surprised that got posted on Yahoo.

When the country splits, KS and the midwest might make a boatload on food exports to the People's Republic of California. Since they obviously won't be able to feed their country.

                • But then again, the Central Valley probably won't go with the Coast, so.... Maybe these farmers will return the favor and bend them over first.

At this rate the temperature will raise 1 degree Celsius over the next 50 years instead of 1.00000004 degrees.

                          • The current energy crisis happening worldwide serves as a reminder of the world’s energy dependency on fossil fuels, even as governments push efforts to shift to renewable energy sources. Renewable energy has proven to not be reliable. In some cases, supplies of renewable energy such as wind and hydroelectric power have fallen short of forecasts, […]
