  • Mad Dog is Out

Honestly, I am surprise it took this long for him to get fed with the imbecile. I do pray that our nation gets a worthy & well qualified SecDef.

It truly feels like this could be a watershed moment for the administration. With John Kelly and Mattis out, and while we wait for confirmation of an Attorney General, we're stuck with a sliding stock market and the threat of a government shut down. It's going to be interesting to watch how the next few weeks/months pan out.

I've heard good things about Mattis. I hope he is replaced by someone else as capable.

Brett McGurk, the U.S. envoy for the global coalition to defeat Islamic State (ISIS), has resigned in the wake of President Trump’s decision to pull U.S. troops out of Syria, Fox News confirmed Saturday -- coming on the heels of the resignation of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis earlier this week.

if u believe ISIS is finished, all u have to do is look to Morocco where two Denmark women tourists were beheaded this week by ISIS.

President Trump announced Sunday that Defense Secretary James Mattis will be leaving the administration on January 1, weeks earlier than planned and just days after his bombshell resignation letter made clear his policy disagreements with the White House.

Whoa. Mad Dog getting booted Jan 1st, two months ahead of schedule. Seems like MD forgot the chain of command when publishing a condescending farewell letter. Trump gave him the Twitter goodbye...

Trump's got some balls on him.

Sounds like they didn't get along from the get-go.

Probably a victim of his own resolve. Mad Dog does three things really well: destroy, intimidate, and kill.

The story that that is being told is Trump had a scheduled phone call with Erdogan. There was a set agenda for this call (to warn Turkey who has made a threat to attack US forces). Trump got disrupted by a Erdogan question of why was the US still in Syria if (as Trump announces weekly) ISIS had been defeated. Trump broke from the agenda and basically said Erdogan was right - the US was pulling out.

There was no discussion with principals in the US GOVERNMENT. No discussion with allies. Trump made the decision without information or input on what the consequences would be. He did it because he was out maneuvered and unprepared and he didn’t want to lose face.

The fact is ISIS is not defeated.
The US is in syria to counter Russian influence
The US is in Syria to counter Iranian influence
The US is in Syria to work with our allies (Israel, Jordan, Saudia Arabia, and the Kurds)

Ultimately we are in Syria because Obama/Hilliary decided to destablize the Syrian government without thinking thru the consequences.

Too simplistic. If we can come up with these theories on a sports message board, ya gotta think he's got people smart enough to advise him of all angles. You sound like CNN. He's simply doing what he promised to do. Get us out of other people's wars. We can be plenty persuasive from the air with invisible aircraft, cruise missiles, and drones. Why all of a sudden must we have boots on the ground everywhere?

That is the anti-Trump narrative that the media is putting out, but does not jibe with the detailed link you provided above at all. It clearly indicates Trump has been pushing his military leadership to properly justify Syria (not just argue), or begin a withdrawal plan. The leadership did neither and just kept trying to pursuade him to stay in Syria.

                From the article:

"On Wednesday evening, in the Oval Office with aides, Trump complained that Mattis and others were still trying to dissuade him from the withdrawal. Syria, he railed, costs “a fortune,” and “for what? What are we getting out of this?”

He had given Mattis and “all the other fellas” months to provide him with solutions on Syria, and no one had given him any, Trump said.
This has been going on for a year, the narrative that it was a snap decision based on a single phone call is fake news:

"It was a year ago, in December 2017, when Trump again brought up what he had said during his presidential campaign. Why were U.S. troops in faraway Syria, and why was the United States paying to rebuild parts of the country destroyed in the anti-Islamic State campaign when others in the region — many of them oil-rich monarchies — were deriving benefit from the effort?"
