We gotta keep an eye on the battle that we face: the war on workers. And you see it everywhere. It is the tea party. And you know, there is only one way to beat and win that war. The one thing about working people is, we like a good fight. And you know what? They got a war. They got a war with us, and there is only going to be one winner. It's going to be the workers of Michigan and America. We're going to win that war.
[...]
President Obama this is your army. We are ready to march. And president Obama we want one thing: jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs. That what we're going to tell him. He's going to be - and when he sees what we're doing here he will be inspired. But he needs help and you know what? Everybody here's got to vote. If we go back and we keep the eye on the prize, let's take these son of a bitches out and give America back to America where we belong! Thank you very much!I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

The army/battle/war metaphor in the context of defeating an opponent at the ballot box has been used in politics for as long as I can remember. When can we stop getting hypersensitive and trying to paint those comments as physical threats?
Remember the bullseye/crosshairs from the Palin and Giffords (I think) camps? People got their panties in big 'ol wads over that.
I think Hoffa and his "soldiers" are morons, but calling more attention to it doesn't help anyone's cause but his.

But it was the standard set, when the liberal media started hyperventilating about alleged right-wing rhetoric and symbolism inspiring violence (with no empirical evidence to back it up by the way). I am not saying the GOP should, in this case, attempt to hoist the liberals up on their own petard I don’t think what Hoffa said is a big deal except in terms of the hypocrisy.
What I found interesting is how tone deaf the President is all he had to do was gently admonish Hoffa for his comments (echoing his speech about the Gifford shooting) and move on. He would have come out looking rather well. But we can’t upset the Unions.

Excellent. There have been more than a few times, even in the last couple of months, where I said to myself "Boy, the President has an opportunity here to make a statement that makes him look like a leader and Presidential..." and he never seems to take that opportunity.
It saddens me that A)our society is so gullible to elect this man to the most powerful position on the planet and B) that our choices other than Mr. Obama were so poor. I pray we do a much better job in the immediate future.

Hmm, maybe another union took Hoffa's words a little more seriously:
The latest news and headlines from Yahoo News. Get breaking news stories and in-depth coverage with videos and photos.
Hundreds of Longshoremen stormed the Port of Longview early Thursday, overpowered and held security guards, damaged railroad cars, and dumped grain that is the center of a labor dispute, said Longview Police Chief Jim Duscha. No one was hurt, and nobody has been arrested. Most of the protesters returned to their union hall after cutting brake lines and spilling grain from car at the EGT terminal, Duscha said. The blockade appeared to defy a federal restraining order issued last week against the union after it was accused of assaults and death threats.
