Facebook just banned 800 pages from its platform. It appears that the ban was to stop false trending campaigns (hosting tens of websites and liking/sharing videos across all the platforms) and spamming, rather than being ideologically driven.

I've been watching the sitcom Parks and Recreation on Amazon, and have recently started season 7 (it's final season). There is an interesting plot-line about a fictional company (which appears to be a combination of Google, Amazon, facebook and twitter) proudly gathering all kinds of citizen's private data and openly using it.

Many YouTube creators make their living using a service called “Patreon”. Patreon is a service that allows subscribers to pay the creators they like for their work. Recently Patreon banned one of its highest profile creators (Sargon of Akkad) for using naughty language. He’s an anti-identitarian moderate politically, but the left sometimes calls him alt-right. The alt-right was actually the group that got him banned.

In protest, a bunch of subscribers left the platform all together so a bunch of creators lost a ton of revenue. Now the creators are leaving the platform and joining an alternate platform called SubscribeStar..:here’s where it gets interesting.

Immediately after these folks moved to SubscribeStar Pay-Pal refused to process payments on the site, effectively shutting down the alternative upstart.

Maybe I'm reading into your word choice, but "naughty" implies that it was mostly harmless. I would say someone got in trouble for "naughty" language if they were throwing around some curse words or something. This guy was calling people the n-word. He said "White people are meant to be polite and respectful to one another, and you guys can't event act like white people." He said "you're just acting like a [n-word]." Source. Look, I'm all for free speech, but any private company should be applauded for barring folks who use the platform to spread those kinds of views. There is absolutely no free speech issue here, even if this were a government employee (clearly not the case, but I mean to point out how extreme this situation is). I am confident a teacher could be fired for saying those things.

As for the idea that he's not alt-right: at some point, if it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, it's a duck. This guy says he is "anti-progressive." He says he is anti-feminism and clearly supports some radical racist beliefs. If I were a moderate, I wouldn't want him associated with me in the slightest. "Alt-right" doesn't just mean like libertarian or tea party person. His social views clearly mirror the stuff that is espoused by the alt-right. He can call himself a moderate all he wants, but he's probably not the best source.

Totally agree. However, on television I consistently see left leaning people trying to associate Republicans (not even saying alt-right) as the party of racists. Frankly, social extremists should not in any way be associated with political parties that don't agree with their social goals. Am I wrong in saying racism is a social attitude/belief? Racism is as repugnant to me as you. As you've probably also notice, Socialism (maybe I shouldn't associate Socialist Party with that, but, hey, sure sounds the same, you know, looks like a duck) is also repugnant to me.

I want to add a couple of things to hopefully better clarify what I'm saying.
          1) "Alt-Right doesn't just mean like libertarian or tea party person" vs "Alt-Right doesn't mean libertarian or tea party person" say two very distinctive things, to me anyway. I know my phraseology is lacking most of the time, not just once in a while.
          2) "Inherently bad". For many things, isn't that based from one's belief systems or point of view? Just an economic system? I believe that socialists economic system is harmful (not getting into that discussion here). From my position, inherently bad.

ShockTalk - I hear you, and I probably could've phrased it better. I think we're on the same page.

I totally disagree about the socialism vs racism thing. I don't think reasonable people can disagree on racism being okay vs not okay. I think reasonable people can disagree on economic models. There is a place in society for people who think socialism is the ideal economic system and there is a place in society for people who think laissez faire is the way to go. Both have substantial numbers of critics.

Racism cannot be defended by a reasonable person.

Until the black community bans the N word it makes no sense for others to attempt to police it. This word is so pervasive in pop music that you'd be hard pressed to find an album that doesn't use it. I don't even know what it means any more.

I absolutely appreciate your nuance on this, and considered making my post more transparent to reflect what was said. Ultimately, I didn’t because the thrust of my post was about cyber companies shutting down businesses on the basis of politics, and I felt my post was too much insider baseball already.

Since you brought it up, I too will bring some nuance to this as I am very familiar with Sargon’s work, and would consider myself a fan (full disclosure). Sargon was debating an Alt-Right YouTube personality. The link you posted has the full statement. He’s telling a racist, someone that has low/no respect for non-white people, that they are acting like “exactly how you’re describing black people acting.” He was insulting them in a way that was personal to that type of person.

It was in no way appropriate for him to go there. There are consequences for that type of behavior, however he didn’t violate any terms of service. In fact, it was a group associated with the debater, an actual racist, that reported the event to YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and Patreon. The alt-right was so insulted by this that they went to great links to punish someone they consider to be a threat to their ideology.

As to “quacks like a duck, walks like a duck,” he’s no more a duck than a hunter bagging waterfowl. He’s debates Richard Spencer and other alt-right personalities, often heated, as he totally disagrees with identitarian politics. The only reason he gets lumped in with racists is because he openly debates them. He has no publically known racist ideas at all.

Sargon is anti-feminist in the third/forth wave form. That’s actually extremely moderate as very few women support this ideology.

And all of the above is just for clarity and has nothing to do with the fact that Pay Pal is shutting down start ups based on political ideology.

Thanks for the call out! Prepare to get schooled nigga.

Full disclosure: I'm a white (Cracka) person of Germanic decent. Before today I've never heard the name Sargon of Akkad.

I find the N word and its prolific use in today's hyper-sensitive era to be fascinating. Never before his its use been greater in pop culture than it is today. In the 90's you had the gangsta rappers enter the scene extolling violence, misogyny, and out and out anarchy. Fast-forward almost 30 years and absolutely nothing has changed. It was said back in the beginning that gangsta rap was merely an artistic expression of "personal experience". I found that to be hogwash back then, and it certainly would be hogwash today.

My musical tastes and background are as prolific as they are diverse. I could be listening to Benny ******* one moment and Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters the next. Later it might be Mel Torme', Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick Jr., and then Thelonious Monk. When I'm working well into the night, I will choose between Classical or Hip-Hop/Heavy Metal (Five Finger Deathpunch is a fav) depending on if I'm anxious or need stimulation. Here are a few samples of Hip-Hop tracks I've listened to with excerpts of "interesting" lyrics:

Pop a Perky just to start up (pop it, pop it pop it)
Pop two cups of purple just to warm up (two cups, drank)
I heard your ***** she got that water
                (Splash, drip, drip, woo, splash)

The interesting thing about this last song is that it was played at the Shockers IBA game after the intermission. Of course it was bleeping constantly but it was played. This isn't obscure "gangsta rap" this is mainstream top 40 music.

So back to my point: In the 80's and 90's I believe the use of nigga was like a code word between African-Americans. It was a nod to a time when the word was used disparagingly and an attempt to redefine it as a means to unify after a past struggle. For example: imagine you and your friends were always called nerds in high school (can't imagine that's too much of a stretch for some of ya'll on here), and later on in life whenever you would bump into each other on the streets you'd be like, "What's up my nerd?" So it's now being disarmed and used as a term of endearment instead of its original pejorative intent.

Today's use of the term nigga is slightly confusing to me. It appears now to be a sign of legitimacy or membership into a club that's respected for being murderous, drug-dealing, and otherwise just non-law abiding and dangerous (with plenty of bitchez who you treat like dirt). Yes this usage was also prevalent in the 90's but there were other factors involved which I already alluded to. Also, it was primarily a term to be used by blacks. Nigga now can be used between blacks and whites as well as between whites and whites. It is not solely attached to color but rather a sign of being hardcore.

We are far removed from the civil rights generation and your average, young black American today is more and more being raised by middle-class parents. I'm surprised that there is still such a strong appetite towards violence. The music that I copied above is played at all professional and college sporting venues and is known by just about every single (white or black) young (relatively) person on the streets today. The songs are catchy and have a good beat, but lyrically they speak to absolute jungle law and chaos.

So if a Podcaster says that someone is acting like a ******, he could legitimately be meaning, "gangsta, misogynistic, rude, dangerous, felonious, etc." Where he gets into trouble is with the older generation (jdshock) who will immediately attribute the name to skin color. Over the last 30-40 years, I believe pop culture has stripped away a lot of the racial attributes of the term nigga (See: TreWay example above -that dude's not black).

                School's OUT!

At the risk of engaging in this silly, irrelevant, and possibly offensive argument: you have very nearly stumbled into a salient point here. If I'm called a nerd, and I say to my fellow nerds "what's up my nerd?" I am reclaiming a word that was used to attack and berate me. If the school jock shows up and calls us nerds, even after we have started calling each other "nerds" as a term of affection, he is not "in" on our attempts to reclaim the word. It's not his word to reclaim.

As a self-described "cracka," the n-word is not your word to reclaim. It was used by people who looked like you and me to cause people serious amounts of pain. It's a word that is associated with some of the most depressing aspects of our country's past, and it's just a completely unacceptable and vile word.

A reasonable person could take the stance that current hip hop should not use the word so liberally. A reasonable person could say the attempt to reclaim the meaning of the word has failed spectacularly. But, in the meantime, I'm not going to use it. I recommend you don't either.

P.S. - Tekashi 6ix9ine is possibly facing a life sentence in federal prison, and he has been ridiculed relentlessly for using the n-word. I wouldn't make life choices based on his actions.

I provided a link to his current legal woes in my post. I didn't label it very well though.

Thanks for confirming your race - a major intent of my post. I had hoped you were black.

Now, zip your virtue-signalling lips on race issues you clearly aren't "qualified" to speak on from here on out mmmkay?

                    White savior complex!

I don’t really believe that, but it’s a fun way to take a dig at someone you respect but disagree with.

Here’s a terrible idea! I will give a rational argument for racism.

If you start with the premise that Asians have unfair advantages, in that their cultural heritage or biological differences predisposes them to be good at math, then a perfectly logical response would be to penalize their SAT scores vs non-Asian students. Further, they could be given statistically significant lower scores when it comes to subjective tests such as personality and leadership.

Thats right folks! Harvard put my rational argument for racism into practice.

So Kendrick Lamar invites a young white girl to rap on stage to a song he wrote full of the word nigga. She lets it fly but then gets shut down in front of a mostly white audience. Before that night she likely greatly blurred the lines between black and white (a good thing). I bet she sure doesn't now...

                  Bizarre.

A really cool alternative ending to that **** show would have been if the rapper put his arm around her rapping right along with the lyrics. Afterwards he could have said a joke like, "Now listen Ms. Delaney, this was your once-in-a-lifetime chance to use the word nigga on stage with a rapper. *everybody laughs* "I guess I should have told her the ground rules." *facepalming* *everybody laughs* Then he busts right into his next song and everybody feels good.

He actually put the young woman's safety in danger when she reentered the crowd. Dumbass.

Sad state of affairs when you're accused of "virtue signalling" for just saying white folks probably shouldn't say the n-word.

If anyone wants a 20 minute video explanation from Sargon (real name Carl Benjamin), see link below.

He also explains some of his politics (superficially) near the beginning.
