A little surprised the NY's 14th congressional race hasn't gotten some play here. Yeah, Crowley ignored the challenge and the demographics of the district came into play, but still, a 15% margin against the 4th most powerful Dem in congress who has a pretty good "liberal" tag to begin with?

To quote the 28 year old Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez " This is not an end, this is the beginning. This is the beginning because the message that we sent the world tonight is the it's not OK to put donors before your community." And there is more and more of these communities every day.

I'm delighted as can be at the idea of NYC trying a full on socialist experiment. It's not the citizenry's fault that they want a bigger handout. It's human nature. But I'm going to watch from afar and laugh as this generation ignores history by trying to prove - once again - that socialism doesn't lead to more poverty.

here was bad news for Finnish freeloaders this week. Their government will no longer pay them to do nothing.

The country’s two-year experiment with a universal basic income was scrubbed. That won’t mean much to people around here, but it is a blow to the concept of Government as Sugar Daddy.
As Margaret Thatcher said, socialism is great until you run out of other people’s money.
As Nancy Pelosi said in pitching Obamacare, it would create “an economy where people could be an artist or a photographer or a writer without worrying about keeping their day job in order to have health insurance.”

      Yeah, those darned day jobs.
      *sigh* Libtards.

A better article on the subject.

Finland has actually reversed course on that front this year, adopting rules that threaten to cut benefits for jobless people unless they actively look for work or engage in job training.

“It’s a pity that it will end like this,” said Olli Kangas, who oversees research at Kela, a Finnish government agency that administers many social welfare programs and has played a leading role in the basic-income experiment. “The government has chosen to try a totally different path. Basic income is unconditional. Now, they are pursuing conditionality.”
“There is a problem with young people lacking secondary education, and reports of those guys not seeking work,” said Heikki Hiilamo, a professor of social policy at the University of Helsinki. “There is a fear that with basic income they would just stay at home and play computer games.”
They're doing some REAL deep thinking over there in Finland. All that brain power has contributed to their discovery that if you give people money for nothing, they will continue to do nothing...

Can you imagine what it would be like if we had unrestrained liberals monkeying around in America like they do in Finland? Where liberal pet projects get implemented in the blink of an eye? Oh wait... we did suffer that fate for 8 years under BO.

Let's see... in the most technologically advanced (see: expensive) healthcare center in the world, let's just give every single person (regardless of employment/value to society) unfettered access to the latest procedures and treatments (some costing millions). What could go wrong?

        • The number of criminal Medicaid drug fraud cases was 55% higher in the four years after the ObamaCare expansion went into effect, compared with the four years before the expansion.
        • More than 80% of the Medicaid-opioid cases turned up by investigators were in Medicaid expansion states.
        • Drug overdose death rates are rising "nearly twice as fast in expansion states as non-expansion states," the report finds.

What's more, data from the Centers for Disease Control show that opioid overdose rates turned upward in 2014 — the year of the ObamaCare expansion. The data also show that of the 15 states with the highest overdose rates in 2015, all but two were Medicaid expansion states. Of the 15 states with the lowest overdose rates, eight had not expanded Medicaid.

In sharp contrast to the soaring health insurance premiums in many Affordable Care Act marketplaces, the cost of coverage for the vast numbers of people who get insurance through their jobs rose relatively little this year, continuing a period of remarkable stability in the employer market, according to a national survey released Tuesday.
Wow! Who'd have thunk it? :applause:

going back to the days of the roman empire, governments (rich white men for the most part) have been throwing a little (government) cheese to the poor / those who won't work to their potential to keep the uprisings down. never did the militiary (first users of internet) think that the net would have the power to take down governments (egypt).. something is coming... either a little more cheese goes to the lower classes or they'll continue to "rise up"... they already got $15/hr (i feel bad for the office manager making $16/hr) for doing entry-level tasks.

bring on more self-checkouts and ordering kiosks..

American flag replaced by Mexican flag at ICE detention center in Colorado on Friday.

Outside an ICE detention center in Aurora, Colorado, hundreds of protestors gathered during a demonstration, that resulted in a U.S. flag being brought down off the flag pole, and a Mexican flag raised in its place.

Never thought I'd see a 'tard go out and pick up an AR15... (referencing the "martyr" article). Looks like we may have something real cookin' here. I'm game for a firefight. Tard-boy can take pot shots at me with his AR-15 poodle shooter from 600 meters. I'll be chillin' in the shade with my .338 Lapua from 3,200....

He constantly gives them reason to hate him. His Presidency is not a TV show and we the people are not his employees. What is most sad is that it is all so avoidable and doing so would not have hurt his policies (probably the opposite). He's an attention whore and cannot help himself. He has made himself an easy target for the press and the far left and has put his ego center stage and taken it off of what is best for the country. So much so that regardless of how good a policy of his is, it is assumed by the press, the left, and moderate America to be bad or at least strongly questioned. Not because it is or may be, but because it's his policy.

Can anyone tell me why he didn't get his wall and other illegal immigration bills through congress in his first 2 years while he had control of both houses? Early on, why was ICE not being more discreet about who they went after? Was it that the "good illegals" were easier to find than the bad ones?

WuDrWu, I agree with your comment above. However, I also believe that Trump gave them a much better foothold and is constantly fanning the fire. For example, when Pelosi put the spotlight on herself regarding her surprising comments about the "Group of Four", Trump immediately took it off her and on to him with his "go back to where you came from" comment. He just can't stand not being at the center of attention, even if that attention is detrimental to him and a good cause.

So, who, in politics, do you think is not an attention whore?

The Donald puts a whole new spin on it. It's like an uncontrollable addiction, because it's usually to his detriment. Part of being a politician is to be in the public eye and that's somewhat necessary. However, to answer your question....as for Presidents during my time I'd say Eisenhower, Ford, Carter, and G.H.W. Bush were not attention whores. Probably Nixon as well as I believe he preferred to not be in the spotlight, because if he was, it usually wasn't good and he knew it.

ShockTalk , are you suggesting that this is Trump’s fault? Trying to get clarification.

I don’t generally buy into this narrative, but some are saying this is a 4-D Chess move. Why? Trump has forced the non-progressive left to defend the progressive crazies; therefore conflating all Dems with the squad. Meanwhile, his policy to deny asylum status to migrants/refugees that previous landed in another country, has been relegated to second page news.

I don’t know if that was the intention, but it worked out that way.

We need to fight against violent protestors and those that would utilize identity to take from some and give to others. I don’t like Trump as a tool for this, but it has to come from somewhere in order to PREVENT civil war.

I'm glad he spoke out against hate. Many people agreed with him.

Trump hasn't singled out women of color, or anyone, when it comes to criticizing political opponents. No?

The hoops people will jump through to defend an obviously offensive, juvenile, and bigoted tweet. But yeah, maybe history will look back at Trump as the hero that averted a civil war.

Clearly TDS is the primary concern we need to worry about in politics today.

TDS is not the primary concern, nor are tweets. The primary concern is equity through identitarianism and the violence that follows.

I respectfully disagree. Progressives and leftist's (at least) hate Trump with pathological hatred, and those that voted for him. Trump wasn't a racist 5 years ago.

The President didn't create it... He revealed it. He's been cheated and maligned, in broad daylight. It makes them twice as mad he hasn't stepped down.
