They actually don't register firearms in IL like they do in Hawaii (all), NY (handguns) or the states that require reporting of ownership inventory from new residents (CA, MD). As I understand it, the FOID (which has been a requirement since 1968) acts almost identically to a mandatory background check with a wait period, except that it is generally a one-time nuisance (subject to scheduled renewals, which may be applied for in advance). Approval of applications is ministerial unless the resident falls into a prohibited category (felon, mentally disabled, etc.), and then there is an appeals process for denials. There are also a bunch of exemptions for out-of-state hunters and other customary carveouts, and concealed carry is a thing state-wide but no open carry.

Pre-McDonald, IL (especially and more specifically Chicago) had the country's most aggressive gun legislation/regulation. From 2010 - 2014, courts clawed back the most aggressive restrictions on the basis that the 2nd Amendment provided a higher baseline of rights than what the state was providing via its own legislation - the supremacy clause invalidated that legislation (a clause most aggressive states rights advocates truly despise, but here it aligned with their interests so cool beans) since the 2nd amendment was held to be incorporated by the due process clause at the state level.

Big cities like NY, SF and CHI will continue to implement restrictions in the future aimed at curtailing firearm acquisitions and ownership in their municipalities. They'll draft the legislation in a way that incrementally and further restricts access without a total ban - it will be interesting to see what future courts decide when this resurfaces at the highest level in another decade or two.

Mass confiscation has been predicted with gusto since the Brady Bill and although helpful for SWHC and RGR share prices, it doesn't seem like a movement for state-wide confiscations has gained any ground.

Pretty much sums it up - there is renewal every 10 years. There is a lawsuit working it way because Illinois severely restricts foster families from having firearms. If you have one, you must have it locked up. Ammo locked up in separate container. Keys must be maintained off of the property and the state reserves the right to inspect unannounced.

Well it not because they are not trying. It is because there are organizations and people who are constantly fighting to maintain the 2nd amendment rights. It is interesting to see while the Hillary Clinton supreme court try and reverse Heller or not? This writer believe they won't. I'm more inclined to believe they will - just because that seems to be the political climate for both side.

Let's see if MSM covers this. Members of the Free Syrian Army, one of the major "moderate" rebel groups apparently doesn't care for us much.

Video shows Free Syrian Army fighters threatening to 'slaughter' US special forces after they moved into al-Rai with Turkish troops

My bet is it will be hard to find on MSM.

Militarily, if you're not Arab and you're in their lands, you are an infidel no matter who's side you are on.

I wonder when (or if) the "allies" will ever figure it out.

I'm sorry, this is just too good to get lost in the "Off-Topic" “Humor” thread…

Katie Couric, Charlie Gibson, Brian Williams and a tough old U.S. Marine Sergeant were captured by terrorists in Iraq. The leader of the terrorists told them he'd grant each of them one last request before they were beheaded and dragged naked through the streets.

Katie Couric said, 'Well, I'm a Southerner, so I'd like one last plate of fried chicken.'

The leader nodded to an underling who left and returned with the chicken. Couric ate it all and said, 'Now I can die content.'

Charlie Gibson said, 'I'm living in ' New York, so I'd like to hear the song, The Moon and Me, one last time.'

The terrorist leader nodded to another terrorist who had studied the Western world and knew the music. He returned with some rag-tag musicians and played the song.

              Gibson was satisfied.

Brian Williams said, 'I'm a reporter to the end. I want to take out my tape recorder and describe the scene here and what's about to happen. Maybe, someday, someone will hear it and know that I was on the job till the end.'

The leader directed an aide to hand over the tape recorder and Williams dictated his comments.

He then said, 'Now I can die happy.'

The leader turned and asked, 'And now, Mr. U.S. Marine, what is your final wish?

'Kick me in the ass,' said the Marine.

'What?' asked the leader, 'Will you mock us in your last hour?'

'No, I'm NOT kidding. I want you to kick me in the ass,' insisted the Marine.

So the leader shoved him into the yard and kicked him in the ass.

The Marine went sprawling, but rolled to his knees, pulled a 9mm pistol from inside his cammies and shot the leader dead.

In the resulting confusion, he emptied his sidearm on six terrorists, then with his knife he slashed the throat of one, and with an AK-47, which he took, sprayed the rest of the terrorists killing another 11.

In a flash, all of them were either dead or fleeing for their lives.

As the Marine was untying Couric, Gibson, and Williams, they asked him, 'Why didn't you just shoot them all in the first place? Why did you ask him to kick you in the ass?'

'What?' replied the Marine, 'and have you three assholes report that I was the aggressor.

'Last Man Standing' canceled despite high ratings

"Allen, a conservative himself who has voiced his support for President Donald Trump, plays Mike Baxter who is also politically conservative on the show. "Last Man Standing" has been praised for being one of the few shows that appeal to a conservative viewership, something the network was conciously trying to do."

Ugh. Probably my favorite sitcom. But I'm only surprised it wasn't canned sooner.

LMS was one of our favorite sitcoms as well. Little shocked at the news, especially considering it led the time slot it was in, apparently.

The white washing of the media and their products continues. Twenty years from now you're going to choose your media provider (cable, satellite, streaming, whatever) by political inclinations, and the products will intentionally be designed that way. Much like MSNBC versus Fox News, only in everything.

I never watched the show, don't know the premise. That said, I read about this and looked up the ratings, the show is doing very, very well. The rationale for cancellation is high production costs, but the show is less expensive to produce than many others with lower ratings. It's puzzling at best, but there could be more reasons for cancellation beyond production costs or Tim Allen's political leanings. Keep in mind, The Beverly Hillbillies had good numbers and was cancelled simply due to the rural purge of 1971, so it might not be all that political.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

As the major networks prepare for annual upfront presentations in New York next week, they're canceling shows left and right.

“Last Man Standing”: Tim Allen’s follow-up to “Home Improvement” was sent packing after six seasons as ratings waned in the last season.

Thanks for correcting the 'facts' put out by these people who buy into 'fake news' and yet tell everyone else THEIR news is fake.

Whenever you become philosophically blind, you eat this stuff up and leave yourself open to be conned. Not only true of the left, but also the right as well.

Appearance and timing can be everything. Whether there were "other reasons", the sitcom's rankings and Tim Allen's vocal right-leaning support recently makes it look like something much more vile.
