House Poised to Rebuke Obama on Libya, Weighs Funding Cutoff
The House is poised to deliver its strongest rebuke yet to President Obama over his handling of the U.S. military intervention in Libya, as the White House pleads for patience in the mission to contain Muammar al-Qaddafi.

The House plans to take up two Libya-related measures Thursday afternoon. One, a bill carrying the force of law, calls for cutting off funding for U.S. operations in Libya. The other, a non-binding resolution, would ask the House to "authorize" the mission.

The latter is not expected to pass. A down vote on authorization would send a clear message to the president that the House disapproves of his handling of the operation. It would follow another vote in the House earlier this month chiding the president for failing to provide a "compelling rationale" in Libya.
I didn't hear anything happening yesterday, but I see now that the House has rejected a resolution giving Obama authority to continue the mission. Not sure if that really does anything other than show that they're not happy.

They vote later today on whether to defund the mission.

                Huh?

We didn't gain our independence from the Brits by asking permission.

Slavery wasn't stamped out by Republicans by holding hands and singing Kumbayah.

The Germans didn't stop gassing Jews because they suddenly grew a conscience.

U.S. Recognizes Libyan Rebel Forces as Legitimate Government
Clinton announced Friday that Washington accepts the Transitional National Council as the legitimate governing authority of the Libyan people. Diplomatic recognition of the council means that the U.S. will be able to fund the opposition with some of the more than $30 billion in Qaddafi-regime assets that are frozen in American banks.

Not that I think anything of Qaddafi, but does anyone else worry that all these rebellions are going to result in radical Islamist factions gaining greater foothold in these countries?

I'm concerned that we're helping our future (if not current) enemies.

It's definitely crossed my mind. And even if not orchastrated by those Islamist groups, they're ready to step in and gain power when the opportunity comes.

I know the situation is a little different, but are we funding/arming/grooming the next Saddam/OBL/Taliban?
