  • [KC Chiefs] Week 11 - KC vs Arizona

Last week I said the following:

The question is "Implosion"? Or not? It will be interesting to see how the Chiefs respond. Will there be finger pointing or buck back down and get to work.
Unfortunately this was more of implosion than getting back to work. Chiefs are now 2-4 in their last 6 games.

Chiefs are now tied for first with the west wide open now and will get to play a couple lack luster NFC west team. This will either get them back on track with the perception they are good team or they will end the charade.

Chiefs are going to have to figure out how to run a balanced offense. They just played against one of the worst rushing defenses this week and sucked and could move the ball and with the terrible D play were out of this game before halftime.

Lack of a run game is concerning, but Cassel throwing for 470 yards and 4 TD's is a relief even it is the Broncos. Not having McCluster and Waters really hurt us, Waters especially. Bowe really stepped up.

In addition, the absence of McGraw and Lewis burned us. Denver exploited that all game long. The defense will get back on track this week. Arizona is no push-over, but we should beat them. Chiefs haven't won on the road so far. Fortunately, we are at home this week.

They won @Cleveland in week 2.

They have not played well on the road though. If they want to win the division then they have to play better on the road. They only have 4 games left at Arrowhead. Two of those games are against Oakland and Tennessee. They already lost to Oakland once and Tennessee is probably the best team left on there schedule. We'll see if KC can play better on the road, in my opinion it's the only way they win the division

Why are Cassel's numbers encouraging? It was racked up against a team that went into the Prevent D late in the first half.

Anybody still excited about this team, this year, is on crack.

My question to you is your obviously not a chiefs fan so why are you here? Do you just take enjoyment out of others misery? Do you enjoy telling little kids there s no Santa clause? If chiefs fans want to have optimism, why does it bother you so much?

I've been a Chiefs fan my entire life. So piss off. Optimism is one thing. I've been cautiously optimistic. But some people have been way out there. Just trying to bring some balance about.

No you piss off. there is one thing about bring balance but. all your bring is "chiefs suck" and get a perverse joy every time the chiefs lose.

If you haven't noticed there isn't any great teams in the NFL. Chiefs still are tied and this their destiny in their hands.

I'm certainly not questioning your fan-hood, but what is bewildering is the fact that you have displayed a much greater degree of optimism in your posts about the future of the Royals than those about the future of the Chiefs. I couldn't blame a fan of either franchise being cautious in optimism, but why you would be more upbeat about the Royals is a mystery.

The only logical conclusion is that you liked the hiring of Dayton Moore, so you have a vested interest in being optimistic about his work to make your opinion look good, while you disliked the hiring of Pioli and Haley, so you have a vested interest in being pessimistic about their work.

It because I can see and believe in what the Royals have been doing. You can see the progress being made by the younger players and we know we're still a couple of years out.

I liked the hiring of Pioli. I had no real opinion on Haley. I have great hope they'll get things turned around. But unfortunately in the NFL, all you have is the NFL. MLB you can see progress and prospects in the minors. The Chiefs may have some pieces. I'm hopeful. But I feel right now there's more evidence the Royals are headed in the right direction than the Chiefs.

And I take no pleasure in KC losing. You could ask my girlfriend how fun I was to be around between 3 and 630. Don't hate me just because I'm not buying into the rainbows and unicorn magic that some have.

Except that the minor league equivalent is college football, where you can see players before they make the NFL. That is why fans get so excited about draft day, because they have seen the players being drafted and have some idea whether those guys are good additions to their teams.

You don't watch college football. That doesn't mean that you didn't have the opportunity to have seen guys like Berry, McCluster, or Charles before the made the NFL, and be excited to have them at the core of your team even before they reach their full potential.

It is precisely the fact that you can be so wildly optimistic about a bunch of guys that have never seen the majors and whom the Royals may not be able to retain long-term even if they do pan out, but feel the need to criticize any Chiefs fan that displays similar levels of optimism that seems out of place.

Personally, I see way more reasons to be optimistic about the Chiefs than the Royals, but it wouldn't serve any function for me to go onto every Royals thread and post every time a Royals prospect failed to live up to expectations or to predict that the Yankees would sign any that did. If I was wrong it makes me look stupid, and if I'm right it makes me look like a jerk.

Except I have tempered excitement about the Royals. I'm not going nuts everytime they win and think they're playoff bound and going to make some noise in the AL. I've seen people getting way too excited about the Chiefs. That's fine. But if we're voicing opinions I'm going to share mine as well.

College football may be the equivalent, but the difference is I'm not interested in watching 100 different teams and having no clue who is going to be with the Chiefs. With the Royals and the minor league system it's narrowed down the a handful of teams and they're already a part of the organization.

Heck, even when it comes to the NFL, I don't watch any other games but the Chiefs. I don't care about the other teams. I'm certainly not going to sit thru a bunch of college games with teams I don't care about. And, as I'd said before, those friends I have that do love and watch college football didn't think the draft was as tremendous as others felt. I'm normally going to go with how they feel over people I don't know.

With that said, I'm with the rest of you every Sunday pulling for a win and was embarrassed with what we saw yesterday. But that doesn't change the fact that I'm not expecting anything great this year and I still don't expect them to win the West but will admit that as weak as it is they have a chance. I still expect 3rd and no playoffs.

I still will continue to watch every week. I haven't missed a game since I was about 7. I'll be out of town but will record the game this weekend. It'll be the first thing I watch when I get home. If you prefer I never comment the rest of the season I'll try my best.

I'm not asking you to change your opinion or to stop posting, just to maybe not say that people who still are excited are on crack.

Also, if you are going to refuse to watch college football or non-Chiefs NFL games (which is certainly your right), then maybe you should refrain from criticizing the evaluations of posters that clearly may far more attention to football than you do. Even if you don't want to defer to the opinions of people that actually take the time to follow the sport in-depth, you could at least not go out of your way to insult their opinions.

Again, I defer to those I know who follow more closely than I do. Simple fact is the Chiefs aren't that good. Those who I said were on crack are the ones who have been talking like we were going to win 11 or 12 games based off of the start of the season. Those that actually hinted at a playoff run. I'd love nothing more than to see the Chiefs get it together and do just that but it's not going to happen this year. And I doubt next year.

I don't have to watch a bunch of other NFL teams to know that the Chiefs aren't good. Sports Center tells me the rest. I keep up on the NFL but won't waste time watching teams I care nothing about. Just because some do doesn't mean they're that much more informed. I read and watch for the others. Not as much since I stopped playing fantasy football but I still follow some to get a feel about what's going on and how it effects KC.

Last week or the week before, SG was cautiously optimistic. Is this the cautiously pessimistic or maybe wildly pessimistic version? ;-)

If you are just saying that posters who hoped for 11-12 wins are on crack, you and I are pretty close together. I said before the season that I predicted 6-8 wins and later I said that I hoped for maybe 9-10 and a possible playoff berth. 9-7 is sometimes enough for a playoff berth and it's still possible. Every football season is full of ebb and flow for almost every team (even playoff teams). Lots of football and possible scenarios left in the season. The defense is the key to their winning. They were good in the beginning. Not as good last week but not terrible, and terrible yesterday.

all the draft experts loved KC draft as they should this year. As for this game, I think it will be good for the guys to be back home, and hopefully we get some of guys back on the field like Mccluster, Lewis, Mcgraw, and Waters. The injury bug is starting to bite us, and the results are starting to show it, as we saw yesterday.
