Yup. 8 teams are enough. Too many games and injuries may have more to do with the eventual champion than anything. Probably pretty easy to say that if you're #9, you haven't done what was needed to be mentioned with #1 and #2.
They already take 10 teams into the BCS bowl system (4 bowls and the NC). Why would they decrease the number to 8?

Under the current system, it's just one game for each team. In an 8 team playoff, the final 2 teams would have played 3 games, probably over a 4 week period.

Pretty solid opening weekend for the non-AQs:

        Fresno St. beat Cincinnati
        TCU beat Oregon St.
        Boise St. beat Virginia Tech
        BYU over Washington
        Utah over Pitt

Not to mention, the close but no call:
        Hawaii close to USC
        Utah St. close to OU
        Rice played with Texas
        SMU close to Tex Tech
Navy fell apart in the redzone against overmatched Maryland

        Plus:
        NDSU over Kansas
        Jacksonville St. over Ole Miss

Just trying to decide how much money to put on Georga Tech to cover the 13.5 spread against KU this weekend... That's pretty much a "sure thing", right?
