Off to a great start in opening weekend.

Pitt @ Utah was a great game to watch. Made me think about BCS programs coming into Koch Arena. The fans rally around the chance to knock off a ranked opponent.

More to come tomorrow. But I really can't wait for Monday--Boise St. @ Virginia Tech.

Yes, but Utah is a de facto BCS team (Pac-10).

Gosh, no mention of Wake Forest's 53-13 thumping of the Presbyterian Blue Hose.

Except PC had the play of the game with the fumbleruskiesque fake drop double pass for the TD.

        Brilliant.

How can it be that a football program "like North Dakota State" or a football program "like Boise State" can ever hope to compete with a football program "like KU" and all their greatness and advantages?

Jacksonville State and NDSU pulling off great upsets. Boise State with a chance for a National Championship. This could turn out to be a great year for college football.

Those that have read my posts know how much I dislike the BCS. However, Jacksonville St beat a pre-season SEC bottom-feeder (picked last in their division) and NDSU beat...well...the beakers for heavens sake. Neither earth shattering wins and, except for Utah St's game, I believe there were no other even close upsets. TCU and Boise St are the non-BCS conferences' flag bearers, I wish them well, but don't be surprised if they play a bowl rematch. Several things will have to happen for Boise St to play in the championship game and going undefeated is just one of them. Only one team from the Big XII, SEC, plus Ohio St can go undefeated for Boise St to get in. It can happen, but that means that 5 of the following 6 must lose a game: Alabama, Florida, Ohio St, Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska. Boise St plays a very good non-con schedule, but their conference will hurt them.

I think the fact that they're not even in the same division means enough. Mark May was rambling on for 10 minutes about how FCS teams don't even belong on the same field as FBS teams. To see FCS teams win some of those games means a lot, even if the teams they beat are terrible.

I truly believe this could be Boise's year. If pollsters plan on leapfrogging one of those major teams over Boise, I think they would've done it in the preseason.

As it is Boise is 5th in the poll that matters. Do you think the coaches will move them up to help put them in position for a title game? I expect them to go undefeated and get screwed over somehow.

It all comes back to the need for an 8 or 16 team single-elimination play-off tournament. Take your 6 BCS conference champions and fill out the remainder of the field with the BCS rankings. It would be very difficult to leave out an undefeated non-BCS team in such a format. If they lose in the tournament, then so be it, but they will have an equal opportunity in such a scenerio.

Yup. 8 teams are enough. Too many games and injuries may have more to do with the eventual champion than anything. Probably pretty easy to say that if you're #9, you haven't done what was needed to be mentioned with #1 and #2.

Boise State ranked 3rd in both polls. They received 8 first place votes in the AP Poll (#2 Ohio State received 4 first place votes.) It looks like some writers are trying to get Boise more respect. TCU is ranked 4th AP and 5th coaches. Nobody is talking about them, but they probably have just as good as a, if not better, shot at the National Championship than Boise does.

Why would NDSU beating KU be considered an upset?
