  • It's that time of year again. Oh Yeah!!!!!!

Hatch green chiles are being harvested. Time to roast up 120 lbs and put them in the freezer for the year. I only roasted 2 bags (60 lbs) last year and that is just stretching it way too far. I absolutely love the smell of chiles roasting. College football season is only 2 weeks ahead and the anticipation is off the meter. The first tailgate is three weeks ahead. Pick-up games will be going again with the start of school. In a month or two the heat will break. Gotta love it all.

I`ve got a 1/2 bushel about 10 years ago from Johnson Garden Center. They had their roasting event last week which is 2 weeks earlier than normal.

Besides their deal, I really dont know where to get them and in bulk.

Here in Tucson this time of the year several of the grocers roast chiles on the weekend in their parking lots. A 30lb burlap bag goes for about $30.00 which includes the roasting. If they do it in Wichita, I'm sure it would be on north Broadway. If you live in KC, call some of the grocers in the hispanic part of town.

Best pizza I ever had happened to be in Lubbock. Forget the name of the place but it was a Green Chile/Chicken pizza. Rather skimp on the toppings which was fine because it was a large thin crusta ala NY style but enough bit and enough on there to know what you had.

        Green Chile >>> life itself
