  • WSU Plane Crash

On vacation last Saturday my dad, good friend and I hiked up to the crash site of the WSU football team near Silver Plume, Colorado. Below is a link to a set of my pictures from the site. If anyone wants directions on how to get to the site e-mail me and I will provide them. All I ask is that that no one disturbs the site due to the fact that 29 people died on the site.

Images of the remains of the WSU football plane crash near Silver Plume, Colorado. My dad, good friend, and I hiked up to the crash site. On October 2, 1970 a plane carrying WSU football players, administrators and supporters crashed near Silver Plume, Colorado en route to a game with Utah State University in Logan, Utah. 29 people died on the mountain and 2 died later on due to their injuries. If anyone wants directions to the site e-mail me. All I ask is that no one disturbs the site due to the fact that 29 people died right where the plane crashed. Good Photos, I am just curious as to what elevation the Plane Crashed at. I have never heard an official elevation.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

This is the location of the crash:

The memorial that you can see off of I-70 is not a good indicator of the crash site as it's a decent distance to the east of where the plane actually went down.

I have personally hiked up there twice. The hike itself is not technically difficult in the least, but the altitude might give people problems.

The first time I went, we parked right off of I-70 and just hiked straight up the hill. The second time I went, we parked in the same spot, but hiked up a dirt road to the east and then found the old road they cut into the mountain after the crash. You can see this road on a map, but you can no longer drive this road, no matter what kind of vehicle you have.

The only things the rescue crews pulled off of the mountain was people and the aircraft's engines. Everything else remained.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.
