I was forwarded an email that said Kansas HP will be issuing tickets for violators going 4 MPH over the speed limit in order to increase revenue. I seem to recall something going around recently about the validity of this, but can't remember if it was true or not. Snopes.com was of no help. Can anyone confirm?

Or maybe KHP is officially denying the story even though it's true...
Either way, it wouldn't surprise me if they became less lenient. Maybe they denied the 4MPH because it's 5MPH or 3MPH...Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

Ok, here's what I've been able to deduce. First, here's the local media take:
In talking to my co-worker again, what the troopers were told was to "tighten it up" (his words) in regards to the amount of discretion each trooper uses before pulling someone over and that they should be pulling over one per hour.
So, the email (Dept. of Rev, 4 mph) is technically not true. But they have been given some directives.

I was to understand that the 4mph buffer was to account for speedometer variability between vehicles. Manufacturers use different methods for calibrating the speedometer. Additional variability is introduced in ECU speed control programming (different for each manufacturer) as well as digital vs. analog gauges.
This is why fee schedules begin at 5mph over the limit. That rug really tied the room together.
