  • Billy Joel / Elton John

Wow. Just wow. Two icons together put on a great show. Lasted about 3:20.

Disappointed in the IBA in that from about midway in the upper bowl, the view of the scoreboard video and video boards behind the stage were blocked by junk hanging from the rafters. Very poor design. The place seems to absorb a lot of sound, too. The music was plenty loud enough, but I thought when the patrons were going nuts, the place wasn't even close to loud.

Parking is not and will not be a problem. Supposedly 3 events going on downtown Wed. and I found a lot half full 2 1/2 blocks away :30 before the show.

What a night - too bad it was a weekday - I'm dragging today.

I've heard that it was a terrific show. I also have a friend who was at Century II I believe watching some Beatles thing called Rain. I'm not sure what the third event was but seems like I heard there was something else going on. I've yet to hear any real issues with parking since IBA opened. And if it could handle three events down there at the same time than I'm not worried.

Would have liked to have been at the F2F show though. I like Billy Joel.
Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
    RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.
Save Shocker Sports - A rallying cry

I don't know if this has been discussed here, but Wichita was darn lucky to get this show. Not because it is Wichita, or anything else, but as I understand it, the tail end of the scheduled tour - KC date and 2 dates in NY - are make-up dates for shows that were cancelled earlier in the tour. Billy Joel has stated publicly that he wanted to "take a year off", i.e. no touring in 2010.

Someone must have pulled some strings or called-in favors to get the Wichita stop added at such a late date. Billy Joel hasn't been to Wichita since 1979; I don't know if Elton John has ever performed here.

Amazing show. I knew Elton John could rock out, but he kicked some serious ass last night. Billy Joel was better than expected (and expectations were very high!). Didn't get to hear Captain Jack or New York State of Mind.

I wish they would have continued the dueling piano's for a little longer, I could have listened to them go back and forth all night.
That rug really tied the room together.

The third thing downtown was the Wichita Garden Show at Century II.

Downtown was rocking last night. I live next door to the arena, and did not attend any of the 3 events, but I love seeing people out and about, utilizing what the city has to offer.

I know and understand that we're not KC, Chicago, or Dallas, but I think it's about time that Wichita begins to really take advantage of what we do have.

Some kick-a$$ development downtown is still needed, and it's a long way from complete, but IBA is a good start.

Only if Wichita had voted in a downtown Casino, downtown would really have been rockin'. It's so sad to see how Wichita misses on so many oppurtunities!

Even if Wichita voters approved a new casino, where`s the money to build it ??? Banks aren`t lending money due to the economy.

Wouldn't the casino owners use their own money to have it built. If Sedgwick County had to use its money, then it would be owned by us.

Elton played at the Colosseum in around 2000.

Hard to find a group of owners with that much money.

Someone can correct me on this BUT I thought casinos would be owned by the state.

I am pretty sure that I saw Elton John at Century II back in the mid 70's.
Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

Just back from St Louis, and wanted to put my two cents in. Before the concert it was damn difficult to find ANY place to eat downtown. Wound up at the Anchor which was different but was good. Drove 2 blocks to the KETCH parking lot and walked 1 1/2 blocks. Great concert and had a friend that lives in KC remark that he thought the arena competed with many venues he has been to. Saw HCGM and his wife at the concert, he was decked out in shocker gold and black and carrying a beer. A true man of the people.
