Mark McGwire finally comes clean

"Big Mac's reputation has been in tatters since March 17, 2005, when he refused to answer questions at a Congressional hearing. Instead, he repeatedly said "I'm not here to talk about the past" when asked whether he took illegal steroids when he hit a then-record 70 home runs in 1998 or at any other time.

"After all this time, I want to come clean," he said. "I was not in a position to do that five years ago in my congressional testimony, but now I feel an obligation to discuss this and to answer questions about it. I'll do that, and then I just want to help my team."

Actually, a great day for Cardinal fans. I've been one all my life (and that's a long time).

Only if you were in great denial, did you believe McGwire was clean. The more players that fess up to what they did and what was going on, the faster the healing process.

I figured Big Mac would come out before the season started or he wouldn't have hired on as a coach. He and Sosa may have been in the minority as "users", but by no means a small minority. That doesn't diminish, for me anyway, what they did to bring fans back to the parks.

As a cardinal fan, I agree it's better that he did fess up than just keep hiding from the truth, it seems like people easily forgive and forget (a-rod situation) on this matter, those times were corrupt back then and still are.

As for the records, I think any records should stand, it still takes great ability to hit the ball out of the park with or without steroids-my biased opinion of course.

As a Cardinal fan I too am glad Mark finally admitted it. Over time Baseball will forgive him.

As we have suspected pitchers also have used steriods also. (i.e. Pettitte and probably Clemens) So how can you not count any records. Who really knows how rampant it was.

One thing about McGuire was his use was before MLB banned these PEDs. That is more than I can say for Barry. Not that it makes it right, but McGuire retired before they banned HGH and steriods.

I don't necessarily disagree. However, he was denied entry for several years based on "suspicion" alone. That being said, I will be very upset if a number of other "suspected" users do get in and he does not. It should be either all or none. No solution is a good one for everybody.
