They definitely went a different then I thought they would, but I think this will end up being a good draft.

We lacked in team speed last year-problem fixed.
We lacked a good returner and slot receiver last year-problem possibly fixed.
We lacked defensive coverage in the middle and deep part of the field-Maybe a trade for another ILB will get this problem fixed.

Rick Gosselin, one of the most respective NFL media guys, gave us a A+

The Chiefs drafted the NFL defensive rookie of the year in Berry – and a slew of other good players. Arenas was the best returner in the draft, and McCluster will give the AFC matchup problems at both running back and receiver.

I too was hoping for Kindle or Tate in the 2nd round, but it sounds like McCluster would not have made it past Philly, and really I think Arenas may have gone higher had he not tweaked his hamstring at the combine.

I'm disappointed in what they gave up to move up for the TE (wasn't the FL TE still available for some time after that?) but maybe they knew he wouldn't be there long. I'd have like to see them pick up Campbell as he fell to the 4th, I agree we got a good guard but no help @ OT in what was a deep OT draft.

Hopefully the later round guys pan out, I was hoping they'd trade back in to the 6th to get Dezmon Briscoe as he fell, I really think he was a bargain in the 6th round.

The reason that Pioli got the reputation he did as a draft wizard was that his approach is different. He takes a global approach, drafts to his system, places a lot of emphasis on intangibles, and builds slowly over several years. He has said that it is not only the players you take but also the sequence in which you take them to build toward success (and his sequence has always been a little different from others). As a result, most of his drafts through the years have seemed fairly mediocre at the time but have paid big dividends later.

Could he fail here? Sure. The draft is not an exact science. But the Chiefs brought Pioli in to do what he does. And I have a hard time complaining about a Pioli draft looking like a Pioli draft. When will we know whether we should have been impressed? Probably about three years from now. Until then, I will give him the benefit of the doubt based on his previous track record.

I read here or somewhere something that still stands out thinking about this draft.

Not only did he get the players he thought would fit his system, he got team captains. Leaders of their teams. The voice and motivation is something that can't be timed, but can make other players around them better.

I have seen very few negatives if any regarding Berry. Some had him as high as second on their board and some had him lower than the Safety from Texas, but almost everyone thought that he'd have an immediate impact. As for the 2nd rounders, I think that they were drafted for their impact on special teams. This is very New England Patriot like.

These are so called experts who watch lot's and lot's of film. I'll take their viewpoint until Berry proves them wrong. Like it was said, drafting like recruiting isn't an exact science and there are times when everyone's wrong.

I was not absolutely sold on Berry until I read this story about him. He sounds like a player that is driven. I can't wait to see him out on the field.

USA Draft Grade = KC (

Another perspective on the NFL draft

                    C+ Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs: So much for general manager Scott Pioli not believing in picking safeties high. Eric Berry was tabbed at No. 5. It might suggest the Chiefs are happy with their O-line, as they passed on Okung. It might also suggest they view Berry as the next Ronnie Lott. They claimed a big-play weapon in second-round running/slot back Dexter McCluster, a small-fast-tough package.

Here is another review based on how far they overreached. http://uponfurtherreview.kansascity.com/?q=node/2126

in general, Chiefs were in the lower-middle.

I think if we make a trade for a RT then we will be solid. The thing about drafting a guard is they are important to a tackles's success. Just like a center is key to a guard's success. It's pretty much a domino effect; maybe they are going to transform Asamowah to the OT position.

DT John Henderson was released from the Jags and is visiting KC this weekend.

LB Adalius Thomas was also released from the Pats, that would be a nice pick-up if we could afford him.

Actually Henderson is visiting Wednesday, in which would be a hell of a pick up.

I can't complain about drafting a guard. How much longer will Waters be around? He's not getting any younger.
