A better idea would be for ShockBand to delete all responses that don't have anything do to with the subject. That would make it easier than trying to separate the wheat from the chaff.

1979Shocker, once again you are wrong and misleading. Read this link on Simon Magus, this is the Catholic perspective.

According to the testimony of St. Justin, Simon came from Gitta in the country of the Samaritans

No hard feelings on my part. You called me out, so I'm calling you out.

The reason I said that was because there is no biblical proof that Peter was in Rome. Peter was commissioned to go to the circumcised (the Jews), while Paul was commissioned to go to the uncircumcised (the Gentiles). See Gal. 2:7-8. In fact, in the mid-60's A.D., Paul says only Luke was with him (2 Tim. 4:11).

Click on the link below for another perspective. It's kind of a long read, but goes into a lot of detail. It's just something else to consider while pursuing life's journey.

As someone whose background is in early church and medieval history, who has a father with a graduate degree in religion, and a network of friends with similar educational backgrounds (including doctoral work in biblical studies) I can tell you that there is zero credibility to the link you posted. To call it shoddy scholarship would be an insult to shoddy scholarship everywhere.

There is no biblical proof that Simon Magus ever went to Rome, either. (There is historical evidence that both Simon Magus and Peter went to Rome, and were in conflict with each other there, but I don't know why you demand Biblical evidence of Peter being in Rome, but are fine asserting Simon Magus was in Rome without like evidence).

Trying to tie the gnostic figure Simon Magus to Roman Catholicism is ridiculous considering that the Church in Rome rejected gnosticism and Simon Magus along with the rest of the church in the ecumenical councils.

The whole argument is silly and not worth any more of my time.
