The county manager says they should close the Coliseum and the Pavilions. I have mixed feelings about this. The manager says that the county will lose 550,000 a year to upkeep Britt Brown Arena and the Pavilions. I don't thing they should save Britt Brown Arena. Time has passed and It has served its purpose. The IBA will probably land all of the "Kenny Chesney and the Keith Urban" type concerts that seem to play there alot. However the pavilions seem to me to still be a viable thing to keep. Alot of agriculture/animal shows come there and they do spend some money in the area.
It will be interesting to see what happens. Personally, I think the Coliseum and Britt Brown Arena have served their purpose and they are out of date now. The Coliseum is too small to land the"Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers" type concerts. Also I think that since its time has passed and this is a way to save money then why not do it?
There was an interesting comment on the story. Someone said that this was a way for SMG to get out of their contract on the Coliseum. This is interesting because, if I remember right, the contract they signed was for BOTH IBA and the Coliseum. With the coliseum possibly closing it makes me wonder if they will have to sign another contract with the county. Which makes me wonder AGAIN if that will delay the opening. I wonder that because if they void there contract with the county if that then voids all of the the contracts with acts and the Thunder that SMG has signed.
Anyways...just some rambling and some insight from me. Interested to hear your opinions.
