When the state had a $1B surplus a few (5-6?) years ago, the conservative Republicans and the Democrats joined forces and overroad the moderate Republicans; they increased spending well beyond what the moderates wanted.

For the Democrats, they thought Kansas should spend more on a variety of beneficial issues and thought the state could support this. Until the national economy went into the tank, they were right.

The conservative Republicans had a different goal. They wanted to "bankrupt" the state. They wanted the state government to be much smaller and their tactic was to overspend to the point where the state would have to shrink drastically. When the state was doing well ecenomically, these conservatives were very unhappy that the state was not going broke. The current national "depression" is serving their goals.

How do I know this? I heard this first hand from a person who was directly involved in Topeka with these issues. Who she/he happens to be is not important because this is not a big secret; probably anyone who was in the legislature at the time knows this. PM me if you doubt my story.

I have been personally involved in these issues and you are simply wrong. Moderate Republicans have been far, far more guilty of overspending than conservative Republicans.

Please find me one quote or any scintilla of evidence of moderate Republicans opposing the ballooning budget. Only when the revenues decreased did they get religion during this most recent legislative Session.
