Not surprising at all since the federal government, and especially this federal government, is much better at, well, everything than you and me.

We need big brother to protect us from the bad, evil, corporate empire and then allow us to have access to what they know is best, not what we cannot control on our own.

Of course the left will fight this to protect child porn, NAMBLA and the unfettered slaughter of the unborn while the right will fight for non taxation.

It all sounds about right to me.

This is getting into very dangerous territory.

Follow the possibilities should something like this be passed. And don't use the assumption that the government's primary interest is the security of Americans.

Abraham Lincoln suspended habeus corpus and subsequently imprisoned a journalist who's only "crime" was speaking against him. Obama has been compared to Lincoln. I wonder why.

Control of those news organizations that are deemed "essential to our national infrastructure". Control over the internet, increasing restrictions on ammunition and firearms, increased access to your personal finances, including bank information and all transactions, access to all personal information including cell phone location analysis, listening and recording of all phone conversations and other electronic communications, etc. the list goes on and on....

So far, there goes the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 9th, and 10th amendments. Next will be a reversal of the 22nd so that our dictator...er I mean President....can continue to lead our great nation to the land of socialist prosperity. Prosperity that is, of course, under complete government control.

disclaimer. Dont read this post and assume that I am anti left, and pro right, because that is not the case. Our civil liberties continue to be under attack from our government as a whole, independent of party affiliation.
That rug really tied the room together.

Agreed. Both parties have a similar platform: power, control and influence. That much is clear.

There is nothing "progressive" about taking away civil liberties and increasing government control. Unless, that is, the goal is Marxism.

I agree that both sides are guilty in this.

On a slightly different but related topic - I didn’t want to start a new thread - from our self proclaimed guardians of the First Amendment, when it suits their purposes, comes H.R. 1966 sponsored by Miss Linda Sanchez (D-CA):

See ya in the Big House… :sarcasm:

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

                        C. S. Lewis
This quote rings true to me more and more everyday of this administration.
"Don't measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should accomplish with your ability."
