U.S. Navy rescues captain held by pirates

MOMBASA, Kenya - An American ship captain was freed unharmed Sunday in a swift firefight that killed three of the four Somali pirates who had been holding him for days in a lifeboat off the coast of Africa, the ship's owner said.

It's a shame that they did not get four head shots instead of just three.
Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

I would doubt that the Navy Seals used a M16. I would expect they used a dedicated sniper rifle like the SR25 or even the .50 cal M82A1.

I have a hunch the fourth pirate aboard the US ship and negotiating suddenly decided to become Jerry Seinfeld.

                I don't wanna be a pirate!

I’m far from an Obama fan; however I’ll give him :good: :good:
for giving the go-ahead to kill those bastards.

The U.S. Navy, and particularly the SEALS, are given kudos for its successful rescue operation, but blame is still placed on the U.S. for the growth in piracy.

                          That'll leave a mark!

I have a feeling we may need to send a few well placed pieces of ordnance on some pirate land bases before this is all done.

My brother thinks they used MP5:

The Navy SEALs and many other elite counter-terrorist units around the world – to include the British SAS, Germany’s GSG 9, and Spain’s GEO -- use the

Doubtful, the MP5 is a submachine gun. The SEAL snipers were close but not that close. And a headshot was necessary to ensure that the individual with the AK would not involuntarily fire his weapon.

If I had to guess, I would say they used a modified M4s or that MK11 referenced on the site you linked. Either weapon is super accurate, especially at the range at which the SEALs were operating.
