Just 52% say capitalism is better than socialism

These numbers are quite scary as I'd guess a few years ago the results would have been a lot better. And the fact that the gap is so small amongst those under 30 doesn't look good.

History shows how bad socialism really is. It's not like you have to be a rocket surgeon to figure that out...

There absolutely ARE that many stupid people in this country. Drive around the city sometime.....you tell me.

Observe a few thousand of our citizens and tell me that those of us discussing this issue aren't about 1000 times sharper than 90% of the people in this country.

Stupid and lazy. They will embrace entitlement at every opportunity.

Yeah, where would this country be without "social" hour. You never hear of capital hour. However you never hear of a good idea "a capital idea" as a social idea. I'm so confused. :good:

I don’t think American’s are generally stupid or lazy.

What do think is they are, at times, willfully ignorant. It is apparent to me that they don’t understand or have forgotten what type of impact a socialist or a fascist agenda, the latter of which is probably more appropriate in describing many of the actions of this administration, has on society in general.

Both a socialist and a fascist will seek to centralize power. They do so by, first, classifying people into groups thereby subjugating the rights of the individual. Socialism will seek control of a society's economic processes through direct state operation of the means of production (nationalization), fascism seeks that same control, albeit indirectly, through domination of private enterprise – in other words they will require private owners to utilize their industry in what they deem is the national interest. Does this ring a bell with anyone following the government intervention in the automotive industry? Hint, hint – the requirement of the production of “green” cars, whether or not is it economically feasible.

Why does this matter? Whether you have socialist policies which ultimately would abolish all market relations outright or you have fascist policies which leave the appearance of market relations while at the same time reserving the right to control all economic activities the end result is the same – all entrepreneurship is destroyed. The State, rather than consumers, will determine what was produced and under what conditions and what is provided to the general public and to whom.

The problem is both socialism and fascism can be relatively seductive: People easily gravitate toward what they perceive is economic, moral, and political security. However, it is a false choice in that the people are giving up far more than they realize.

Notably, our (the United States) inherent political culture does provide a vital check on the aforementioned. If it were otherwise, President Obama would not be constantly insisting that his takeover of private business, for example, is only temporary. Whether he's lying or telling the truth (or simply doesn't really know) doesn't change the fact that in America, political realities demand that he say this is all temporary. Let's just hope political reality leads to plain old reality.

I don’t think the general public is indifferent to capitalism vs. socialism or fascism. Furthermore, I don’t think the election of President Obama represents a cataclysmic shift in the general public towards his economic policies. I have faith that the American public will “wake up” and realize the grass is not “greener” in Europe.

American society is all about me, myself and I. Most Americans have abandoned their responsibility to remain informed in matters of citizenry. It seems like if they made some food bank donations and didn't find a way to avoid jury service then they've done their civic duty.

Unless, of course, you consider closing the community money pit, errr, swimming pool!

I've managed to dodge jury duty every time so far. Of course, they always hit me at the worst times like when I was still in high school, moving, or because I am a volunteer firefighter where I live, I am disqualified from sitting on a federal jury (that really hurt my feelings too) .
