  • I need a new cell phone carrier to get service from

I have sprint and it is garbage. They charged $40 for internet usage on my mom's account and my mom doesn't have know how to get to it. We've had run ins with them 3 times in 6 months.

I was think ATT and get the LG Vu

I've had Cingular/ATT for about 10 years and am very happy. There were a few charges once from random texting I was somehow getting but they took care of it. I get great reception where I live, which is more than I can say for those with Sprint or Verizon that I know.

Alltel has been good for us. But I can't vouch for their service in Wichita. And we don't use our phone for much more than occassional voice calls.

My wife and I have had Verizon for about 10 years or so. It's been good. My wife's family lives in western Kansas (Dodge City, Goodland) the phones work great driving out that way and our occasional trips to KC and St. Louis. Don't think I've ever been anywhere it didn't work...

Verizon for 7 years. Alltel was bought by verizon, so now you can get the 10 friends plan like alltel had offered.

I have had great luck with Verizon all around the state as I go hunting and fishing.

I have had good service with Sprint. When I had AT&T/Cingular I had no reception at WSU inside buildings or outside of buildings. Even in the basement of the RSC I still get reception with Sprint can't be said with AT&T/Cingular.

I had good service with Sprint and not with AT&T. But that is just my opinion.

My first pick was Cingular way back in '03. Their coverage area and reception sucks. I've been with Verizon ever since with ZERO problems.

Verizon easily has the best coverage area in the country.

                          Two suggestions.
                          1) Before you cancel your Sprint service, call customer service and ask to talk with a retention specialist. You might get satisfaction when you inform the retention specialist that you are taking your mom's service and yours to another carrier. Possibly waived charges, a better, cheaper plan and other stuff. Sprint now teaches their customers (by appointment) how to set up and configure their smartphones (if that is what she has). If they don't/won't offer to make you a better deal, screw'em.

                          2) If your mom got to the Internet without knowing how she did it, you might not want to get her a smartphone from any carrier. She might wind up with the same problem and billing issue. I doubt the other carriers will be any more sympathetic, especially if they just locked you into a new 2 year contract.

chances are the internet was thrown in as a "freebie" for the first month. And in the fine print it tells you to call and cancel or be charged $x.xx per month.

Happens all the time. Hell it even happened to me and I was telling my girl that I needed to call and cancel and still never did.

In '03, I would agree with you. At that time, Cingular was switching from CDMA to GSM technology and had some spotty problems.

I switched to Verizon, and quickly found them to be the most money chizzling of any of the carriers, making you fork out the dough for any and every little thing you might want. Ringtones, getting pictures off your phone, putting music on your phone....

So after a year, I dropped them and went back to Cingular. Their service had improved by leaps and bounds; I got an excellent signal all through Wichita and other cities I spend my time, and even had a good signal through much of Alaska, including when I was on water in the panhandle.

Just a bonus that, after a year and a half back with Cingular, they came out with the iPhone.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.
