  • Return of the Welfare State...

The Investor's Business Daily doesn't like the way things are headed. The gov't appears to be encouraging more welfare caseloads which leads to much more increased spending all while trying to cut the deficit...

    More Gov't =

    Is anyone surprised? Change

Both political parties are ruining this country. The Republicans and Bush abandoned conservatism in favor of big spending, setting the stage for the even bigger spenders who are now in power. GOP, you helped make this bed and it's up to you to fight like heck to unmake it. But good luck with that. At least a few "rogue" Republicans are coming to the forefront, like DeMint. We need more like Ron Paul, Jeff Flake and Jm DeMint.

The whole brood are a bunch of morons who are so focused on their little piece(s) that they have lost site of the big picture (assuming they ever had site of it to begin with).

This welfare thing looks like a battle to be fought at the state level. Will we rise to the occassion and fight against it?

Sadly, I'm not sure we have enough leadership in this country to fight it. I hope I'm wrong as everything seems to be moving in the wrong direction right now.

How long before we revolt??? Grab the pitchforks!!!

The problem is that by the time all the recipients of the savior's grace receive their undeserved rewards, his side will have bought their votes.

It may just require pitchforks (or the modern-day equivalent) to mount any real revolt. A revolt at the ballot box no longer seems plausible.

You're not alone with that belief. More and more people are starting to feel this way and at some point it's going to boil over. We're going to see massive protests and who knows what else. I continue to hope somehow things will change for the better but I don't know how that can possibly happen without some sort of major influence.

I wondered why some groups are battling so hard to take away the right to bear arms.

Sure they can have mine...from my...well you know.

The Iowa National Guard recently scrapped plans to conduct a "drill" in a small Iowa town designed to locate and apprehend a "suspected arms dealer" when the plans were made public.

Yes, on the surface it seems honorable. But should a real revolt become necessary, the government will do everything in its power to disarm the citizens and apprehend those who attempt to arm the citizenry. The National Guard is the closest thing we have to a state-run militia, but don't expect them to be on "our" side if things get nasty. The feds are pulling the strings.

To be honest, I don't expect things to get nasty. I fully expect a very large majority to bend over and say, "thank you, may I have another" and sit idly by while the vocal minority is silenced.

A lot would depend on where the military sits on how the country is going. I honestly could see many refusing to go after their own IF things got to that point. It's not like the military is immune to all these decisions being made.

I think our military has essentially been "patriotized" to believe that whatever our leaders say is right, is right - no questions. No doubt there are dissenters, like the 40 year-old lieutenant joining a lawsuit demanding Obama produce an original birth certificate becuase he questions whether his orders are coming from a Constitutionally seated president.

If the military was full of people like him, I'd feel a whole lot better.

You have a point. I just have a hard time believing that they could turn on their own people. I may agree with you that the lower level military personnel would be more inclined to do what their told, but I do believe that the higher ups wouldn't follow an order like the one we've proposed here.

I'm not suggesting they will be ordered to fire on citizens. But I do believe they would be ordered to disarm people, stripping them of their 2nd Amendment rights.

Firing on citizens would come into play at some point. Many wouldn't just stand there while their guns were taken away.

I also think our military leaders for the most part know the Constitution better than anyone in DC.

I wish I could believe that, Sub.

They went into Iraq without a Congressional declaration of war. They do what they are told.

But you are right that they would have to use force and I believe many would comply. The question is would the dissenters turn on their fellow soldiers or just lay down their weapons?
