  • Digital TV Delay

It's almost official. We won't go all digital until June 12. Mainly because 50% of Americans believe their TV's are going to explode on Feb 17.

Most of them probably...considering Obama amounted to about 75% of the electorial votes?

Does it really matter when TVs go all digital? No, not really. If there are people who weren't prepared by the previous administration, I guess Obama can clean up that mess too.

Unfortunately, a large majority of the people who are unprepared are the elderly. Many of them have no one to help them and they don't understand anything about the digital switch over.

Considering all the time they've had up to this point, four months is going to change that?

If anybody still uses television antennas for their 5 channels they pick up at home, not having tv isn't gonna hurt them all that much anyways.

A lot of people still use antennas....again, especially the elderly. Either they can't afford it, or don't watch that much TV. I saw a figure quite awhile back, I'm thinking it said 40% of Americans don't use a cable or satillite.

I don't know how much of a difference it's going to make. Can't hurt though. I know I read the budget for the digital switch over wasn't high enough and that part of the problem.

I get that. I still know a couple old folks that use it. But you even said it yourself, 'don't watch that much tv'.. meaning a few days of not having it while waiting for a device they should have gotten a year or two ago anyways is no biggie.

All old people watch the local news. Advertising is heavily geared towards that demographic at night. Having all their T.V.s shut off would undoubtedly cause a major program with local television advertising. Somebody is going to have to hold all their hands. We are "stupid, lazy, Americans" anyway.

If they go one week without their local news, they'll be at a store that sells TVs and getting the info/help they need.

This whole thing is BS anyway. The free-market should be driving this, not the faileral government.

I will bet you a politician(s) had interest in a digital converter business.

Extending the deadline is stupid, IMHO. This was well publicized, and for those still confused, they would most certainly ask someone for help if they suddenly lost their channels. I helped a neighbor get and set up a converter box almost a year ago.

I did hear that the program for getting coupons ran out of its allotted money, I'd rather see them pump a few million into that WITHOUT extending the deadline. Or, instead of how they ran the coupon thing, just have people buy the box and send in for a rebate (please allow 12 weeks to 6 years for processing), which would probably be easier to set up.

Not only is it going to be delayed, I think there is a few hundred million in the "stimulus" package to further this dead elephant.

This makes the $95,000 toilet seats of years ago look like a frickin bargain.
