  • Intrust Bank Arena

I apologize in advance if these questions have been previously answered.

    Seating and Expansion:
-- It appears in the artists drawings that the arena consists of bench seating. Is this correct or will there be chairback seating?
-- The arena will hold 15,000 for basketball. I believe this will be enough to host an NCAA basketball game, but hasn't the NCAA announced they will be increasing the minimum number of seats beyond 15,000?
-- Will it be possible to expand seating (similar to Qwest) if needed. The artist drawings show all of the "luxury box seats" along one side of the arena which doesn't appear to leave any room for expansion.

Finally, has the Shocker AD made any reference about the possibility of holding a game or two per season at Intrust? I would like to see Tulsa or KU return to Wichita as one of the possible first Shocker games at Intrust.

Should have free tickets for life based on amount of credit card interest I`ve paid to Intrust. :(

I think it's gonna be a pretty nice facility when completed. I think a lot of the naysayers and CAVE elitists will be pleasantly surprised when they attend an event there.. and their hypocritical a**es will attend indeed..

Yeah but sure as day they'll be first to complain when they have to walk a block or two without covered parking.

True BostonWu, but it's not like they have the Green or Orange Line stopping at the front door. Hopefully, a parking structure in addition to real-time signage indicating which lots are open and still available will help those attending events.
Regardless, there should be some good sporting events and an increase in concerts headed to Wichita.

Yes it is bench sitting or yes to chairbacks? If it's bench sitting, then they just ghettofied the arena. Who knows the answer?

                  Are you serious?

Do you guys honestly think we'd spend $200 million on BENCH SEATING?

Well, Wichita is building this thing so I guess it was possible..

but to the bench seating.. that's an EMPHATIC NOOOOOO.

You`ll be issued a 5 gallon plastic bucket when you enter the arena. Won`t need to leave your seat to use the restroom.

Yes, unfortunately, I am serious. The artist drawings show bench seating. You'd think there is some sort of computer graphic that could show chairbacks.

I hope the Intrust Bank Arena will not open surrounded by crumbling and narrow streets, surface parking lots that are badly lit, poorly designed pedestrian walkways, etc.... Wasn't there some sort of controversy whether to build a parking garage or not, and wasn't this issue finally settled months after construction of the arena had started.
You better believe I'm serious---and a little nervous over the opening of a city gem in the middle of urban blight while I sit on a bench with 14,999 Wichitans watching a game against Tulsa or KU.
                      :)

Actually, Veritas, if you're looking at the two pics on the county site, they show no chairs or benches of any kind, just the concrete substructure. So unless we're supposed to bring lawn chairs and blankets...

Actually, in looking at another item on the county site, it specifies that there will be the following:

7200 20" armchair seats (presumably lower level)
7000 19" armchair seats (presumably upper level)
896 various seat sizes in the suites and loges
                        Grand Total: 15,096 permanent seats

Additionally, there will be 121 mens restroom fixtures, 139 womens restroom fixtures, 4 womens and 4 mens restroom fixtures in the suite level, and 7 total family restroom facilities.

                        All this per:

which granted, is dated in late 2006.

                          Thanks for the link Shockband.
I hate to be so cynical re the city leadership.
I hope the place turns out to be successful for downtown and the city.

While I'm thinking about it, why are we calling this Intrust Bank Arena? The 'trend' by almost all new arenas being built is to use 'Center'. Think about it. It's true. Qwest Center.. Sprint Center.. Ford Center.. BOK Center.. Pepsi Center, etc...

I dunno, it woulda sounded better with 'Center' in it. Not the biggest deal, but just a little pet peeve I thought I'd throw out there.

Probably because when you say "Intrust Bank Center" people would think of it as being a place you go to do your banking.
