Back to the second hand smoke issue: it is avoidable. If you don't want second hand smoke, then stay away from places where people smoke.
It ain't complicated.
Smoking is avoidable. If you want to smoke, smoke in a place that does not conflict with my personal breathing space.
It' ain't complicated.
Your solution requires government coercion of individual behaviour.
My solution does not.
Your solution requires me to change schools or go unreasonably out of my way and be late to class.

"Is it safe to assume you don't participate in 4th of July festivities, grill on your patio, position yourself next to a running vehicle, etc...???"
And where do these activities take place? Outside. Not inside where the smoke has no where to go.
"If you're going to do it, you're going to do it right," athletic director Jim Schaus said. "If we're going to put 'Wichita State' across our chest, then every team is going to matter."

Your solution requires me and other innocent people to die.

None of those activities occur quite as often as the second-hand smoke intake occurs. I don't think anything's been proven about any of those directly causing serious health issues or cancer. Please don't try to compare those activities to cigarette smoke.

If second hand smoke causes death, and you choose to be next to a person smoking, then . . . cause of death is stupdity.
And this is causing me to remember a little bit of Constitutional Law from law school.
If I remember right, the 9th amendments states,
"Every US Citizen has the right not to be irritated or inconvenienced."
First off, there's no 'if' in regards to second hand smoke and related deaths. It happens.
Secondly, why should I have to go out of my way when the person smoking is creating the unnatural health hazard?
Why can't you understand that cigarette smoke and smoking isn't a natural thing? Smokers should be catering to natural, non-smoking people, not the other way around.

Are you not equipped to make this decision yourself (to avoid smokers)?
Some of us have made that decision, yet still have smoke somewhat forced upon us. Are you willing to take me in from my family? Are you willing to tell all the smokers in front of Lindquist, Jabara, Elliot, and the RSC to bugger off?
Not everybody can avoid smokers 100% of the time the way you would like us to.

You want government to regulate this behaviour, I do not. I am sure you can understand that.
Did you have another source besides the lung association that second hand smoke causes death?
So you think that only natural things should be allowed . . .
I don't want government definining "normal" behaviour.
It is scary what some people want government to do.
Are you not equipped to make this decision yourself (to avoid smokers)?
I'm an opponent to big government just as much as you are. However, when it starts to affect my health, then what's the point?
I figured a government organization such as the American Lung Association would be as good and credible as ever. It's not like its some random blogspot on the internet. Most of the other citations I gave are from tons of government agencies. If you're anti-government, then I guess these aren't acceptable enough for you. What would qualify as an acceptable source?
Natural things to be allowed? I don't really care what you do. But I'd say most people would error on the side of natural vs. unnatural in many things. Breathing regular air vs. breathing cancer-causing, eye-burning, clothes-smelling cigarette smoke would figure to be a no-brainer.
So what's the point of government? Again, I'm not a fan of government, but without rules and definitions, we'd all be doing whatever the hell we'd wanna do. I personally don't like anarchy either. If you can't give up a smoke for more than an hour while eating or sucking back on a beer, then you have an issue and you're having your 'habit' control you. I guess if you don't like being in control, that's your prerogative.
As fastbow said, I try to avoid smokers and their after-effects whenever possible. It still doesn't eliminate it all though.
Are smokers not equipped to keep their disease-instilling habits at home and by themselves?
How many packs do you burn up a day?
