While this year there appears to be no pretext or subterfuge, I could make an argument the media manipulated the 92' election by promoting Ross Perot in order to steal votes from Bush which in turn took away the real story about what a weak candidate and pervert Slick Willie was. I can vividly remember ol Danny Boy calling the 92' election for Clinton with a smile on his face like someone was tickling his arse with a feather.

So CNN and MSNBC have a slant towards the libs...and Fox toward the conservatives...so what? More Americans have access to a radio than a TV, but you don't hear about the liberals bitching and moaning about the clear bias of all the conservative talk shows. People aren't being forced to watch or listen to either medium...they can turn the channel.

I think the larger point is that “hard” news should not have a slant at all.

They're opinion-based entertainment. No one pretends otherwise.

You're talking about two different issues as if they're the same:
-perceived media bias
-factual viability of what's reported
Correct?
Why are we intermingling the two?

Are you kidding? What do you think the "fair doctrine" talk is all about? It's only purpose is to shut down or at least mute conservative talk radio. You don't really think it will apply to MSNBC or CNN etc. do you??
The apparent intent of the orginal article of SubGod22's link, is to make it appear that MSNBC is simply a counter to an equally extreme Fox and that the others are really mainstream.
What a load of crap! Their own numbers show that Fox is probably the most balanced of all. They obviously think we are too stupid to actually think about the numbers and instead just leave to them tell us what they mean. It is a self serving article written in a veiled attempt to justify their blatant bias during the campaigns, both the primary and general. The sad part is that they probably believe what they wrote - a sad commentary on the state of journalism both in the field and in the education system.
All my humble opinion of course.

I think what we really have is CNN that leans left, Fox that leans right. Those two balance each other out.
MSNBC severely tips the scales. But what are you going to do? If enough people tune in and NBC can float it, then whatever. Right now it's the free market at work. But if the "FD" hits, I'm going to expect them to change drastically or get shut down. (Ok, even I'm laughing at that.)
I just wish the masses would wake up and realize what the news networks are and start thinking for themselves.

I did find it interesting that Fox was pretty consistent between Obama and McCain when it came to negative coverage and whatnot.
I was also blown away by whoever said libs don't complain about conservative talk radio when that's really all the "fairness doctrine" is about. Silencing the right as much as possible.
There's only one politicals radio host I ever listen to and I don't do it often. And it's not like the libs haven't had opportunities for talk radio, they just don't get good enough ratings apparently.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.

I would only add "the polls" to your last sentence. There are very few legitimate polls, and this year I'm not sure who they are, if any. Many polls this year are manufactured by the news media for the sole purpose of creating or supporting a story/philosophy.
