Journalism.org did a study over positive/negative/neutral stories from the networks and compared them. It's kind of interesting
Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
    RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.
Save Shocker Sports - A rallying cry

That's why I don't watch either Fox or MSNBC. The study found Network TV news to be more balanced in its coverage than Cable outlets.

I think the very facts of the campaign -- that Obama is ahead and McCain trails -- plays a large role in determining the "tone" numbers.
“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

Not surprisingly, I disagree. I think poll numbers have very little impact over the media coverage of any election. Generally speaking, the media has for decades favored one type of candidate over another. It just so happens that their institutionalized bias is much more obvious this time around.

I think it's more likely that media coverage has more impact on polls than the other way.

I think the polls are just a much bigger part of the story this election, which I would agree is not a positive development.

There are a lot more polls being broadcast and more news operations, including cable and online outlets, searching for content and angles. It seems to me that it makes the polls play a bigger role in coverage, and it follows that the results of those polls factor into the "tone" as defined by the study.

The methodology of the journalism.org study considered a story "negative" or "positive" if it had a 1.5 to 1 ratio of comments one way or the other. That seems to me to be a pretty narrow bullseye for a "neutral" story.

Anyway, I hope we can agree that the horserace should not be the main story of an election, the candidates' views, issues and plans should.

Nice find, I love reading about the continued crying and whining of the Republican base.

The days of objective political journalism are done, and have been for some time. But things aren't going to change any time soon because too many people (yes, the sheeple) want to have their political news interpreted for them by the pundits.

The Demosheep look to the MSNBC ideologues to get their marching orders and the Republisheep go to the Fox News ideologues. The casual observers catch what they can after work on the 5:30 broadcast news.

So marty, do you disagree with the points made in the article, which by the way, are not the ones you just listed?

Fairness Doctrine, indeed. I wonder, will MSNBC will get shut down after the Dems get their pet speech-stopper reinstituted?

Do you have a substantive argument? Did you even read what Hanson wrote?

If you want to have a discussion – then lets have one….but I suspect you don’t.

The irony of the article is that Hanson refers to Dan Rather and his false National Guard story and Rather himself was on television last week (MSNBC, mind you) talking about the double standard the media has with gaffe a minute Biden and Gov. Palin. Now that the old fart is a bit bitter with the main stream media, I would like to here him unplugged taking on the liberal underbelly in the news room.

While this year there appears to be no pretext or subterfuge, I could make an argument the media manipulated the 92' election by promoting Ross Perot in order to steal votes from Bush which in turn took away the real story about what a weak candidate and pervert Slick Willie was. I can vividly remember ol Danny Boy calling the 92' election for Clinton with a smile on his face like someone was tickling his arse with a feather.
