Ben got a question for you. Do you have any kids and have you driven by any highschool rather than northwest?? If not take a drive by west and north and southeast and east and walk around the fields.

As a current college student, I realize how important education is and encourage everyone to vote yes for the bond issue.

While I graduated high school 2 years ago from a non-USD 259 school, I believe its very important for us to all support this community. Unfortunetely, I live outside the district and won't be able to vote yes myself. However, If I could vote, I'd vote yes(And remember, I'm a poor college student!)

To all those voting NO due to the problematic economy, I ask you to look at what prompted this economic situation. The sub-prime mortgage mess was the catalyst to our tumbling economy. The sub-prime mortgages were given to people who probably shouldn't have ever been issued loans. They most likely didn't have great jobs and were uneducated. So, lets not focus on our economy, but rather on educating our youth. Maybe if we educate the children of Wichita, they'll grown up, get good jobs, and be able to pay for their mortgage(or at least have the knowledge to not take out a loan you can't repay).

Education is the key to bettering our community. Please vote YES!

        I don`t have any kids.

Since I don`t have kids, I don`t have any idea about the current condition of local schools??? To be honest, I`ve never been inside any Wichita schools beside Kelly elementary & Northwest. Hard for me to judge a school by driving by.

One thing I wonder: Will parents keep their children in Wichita schools if we vote to approve improvements instead of relocating to surrounding towns???

The local economy is not the economy you see on CNN every night. Locally, real estate prices did not spiral upward at a ridiculous rate over the last 5 years, and thus haven't collapsed like they have on the coasts.

Furthermore, the economy is cyclical. Voting for the bond issue now will give Wichita the opportunity to bid the work in today's economy and even if Wichita experiences a downturn over the next 2-3 years, we'll be right back going strong when the bulk of the bond obligations are to be paid.

The vote "NO" crowd just needs to get out of their C.A.V.E. mentality.

That is an interesting question. As previously stated, I will vote yes on the issue. However, I will move to Andover when my kids get old enough to go to school. The only way I would even consider putting them in our public schools would be if they were in a gifted program to get a better education. With that said, voting no is short-sided as someday my grandkids may want to have the option of public schooling in Wichita. Vote yes for the future of Wichita.

I don't have a dog in this fight (I live away from Wichita); however I can't imagine ANYONE in their right mind not voting YES on this issue! Hell, I hate taxes as much as anyone, but I make an exception when it comes to schools and the education of my children and future grandchildren.

Go Hutch! Go Derby! Go Goddard! Go Sedgwick! Go Andover! Go Augusta! Go Eldorado! Go Newton! Go Andale! Go Clearwater! Go Rose Hill! Go Mulvane!

I think most people see the $370 million and freak out. What is it about $40 a year per $100,000 on your house?

Are there any poll numbers out there for this vote? All I hear is from the No people.

How long ago was the last school bond issue?

How much did we contribute to that bond and what's left on it?

People who under-value the experiences of sports either did not play sports or may have been envious of others who did. Personally, I played football. It helped me to have a mind-over-body endurance that helped while working full-time throughout my WSU education. Leadership, teamwork, interpersonal communication, and other positive qualities are LEARNED while participating in sports activities. Aren't these the qualities we want to see in the people of our community?

I'm glad that Bruce Haertl and Bob Lutz are supporting this bond isssue. They see first-hand the schools' needs because they report stories from them.

Vote YES to support your community and its future.
"If you're going to do it, you're going to do it right," athletic director Jim Schaus said. "If we're going to put 'Wichita State' across our chest, then every team is going to matter."

Trust me ben you will get a lot from driving by those schools. Drive by north high and look at the batting cages. Ben northwest is a phenominal school but there not a poverty school. Schools like north, west, southeast, there poverty schools, they need this!!

I will only vote 'Yes' when the fat is taken out of the 370 million. It is a wish list and not a necessity.

A wish list? Man its a need. Sports is something that keeps kids off the street if ur against that ur sad man. Also remember the bond also has to pay for work material which aint cheap.

I don't have a dog in the fight either.

I am curious if those of you supporting the bond issue think that the school is spending its existing resources efficiently and effectively and if you think so, what evidence do you have of that?

I wonder how some of the needs, like safety issues in East High's auditorium, aren't now being taken care of.

I think USD 259s annual capital outlay is $24 million per year. How in the world can they not take care of basic safety needs with an overall annual budget in the $500 million range?

Are swimming pools part of the "needs" list?

FWIW, the students at Washburn Rural practice at the indoor pool at Washburn.
