  • What Gives?

This race is over so I’m focusing on Obama’s platform and to me this makes no sense whatsoever and for the life of me I have no idea why Obama hasn’t been grilled to death over it.

    OBAMA PROMISES:

Lower taxes for 95% (which is impossible BTW when 40% don’t pay taxes)

Higher capital gains taxes – there won’t be any for the next decade since losses can be rolled forward

    National health care for all!

Billions more for education (and I’m certain many more programs I’m not even aware of at the moment)

A new round of stimulus checks in the mail for the tune of $300B

Prolonged war in Afghanistan just as soon as we retreat from Iraq

    Reduce the deficit

ALL OF THIS IN LIGHT OF A TRILLION DOLLAR BAILOUT???

SO WHAT GIVES? WHERE’S THE MONEY COMING FROM???

To me it’s pretty simple. One or a combination of these things will happen.

    1) Taxes are going up
    2) Deficit is going up
    3) The majority of these big government programs will never happen

And don't blame W or the Republicans because these are Obama's promises and if he has a pretty good idea during this election that he can't deliver then that's on him.

I think what BHO is preaching now and what we see in the WH will be different. He is trying to paint himself as someone that can reach out to both parties but his record says otherwise. IMO what we see in the WH will be even more socialist to go along with his record.

Is that all you’ve got say Eleven? You’re the resident BO campaign manager; therefore I expect an answer. Seriously, how are these promises going to be paid for?

Platform for both parties are garbage. Here is an excerpt from the 2004 Republican platform (I would use Kerry's but he didn't win :) ):

Let us be clear: If government is to meet the most pressing needs of our time andstill maintain fiscal discipline, government leaders must set priorities and stick with them. President Bush has shown genuine leadership in doing just that. Time and again, he has made difficult decisions and followed through with clear determination. He has made it
plain that his top budgetary priority is to protect America and win the War on Terror. He also remains committed to the education reforms he spearheaded in 2001. All discretionary spending must be kept in check and taxes must remain low to stimulate economic growth. We endorse the President’s pro-growth economic policies and his disciplined approach to spending taxpayers’ dollars. And we applaud the efforts of President Bush and Republicans in Congress to meet our nation’s priorities and cut the deficit by more than half within five years.

I think its time you researched your own answers.

Here are two great places to start.

As President Obama has said, the change we seek will take longer than one term or one presidency. Real change—big change—takes many years and requires each generation to embrace the obligations and opportunities that come with the title of Citizen.

If you dont get your answers continue to research!

Rem no right or left wing blogs, search for respected authors and publications.

e.g. Journal pushlished by the AICPA for articles on tax.
