You are correct to place some of the blame on the American people – middle class Americans who benefited from, gasp, DEREGULATED lending standards. I have written about this before – but it was the social engineering of Congress (ten or so years ago) that got us in to this mess to begin with. And with a Democrat administration and Congress – we can expect more of the same. In other words – they will attempt to influence the free market to fix the problems such interference created in the first place….it is insanity in the name of fairness.

Pay the piper – pay the fiddler – whatever you want to call it – YOU BET - we as American’s need to but make no mistake the decisions that lead to this atmosphere were engineered by our own representatives. Our own representatives supported by the ticket that currently is leading in the national polls.

I still have faith – I guess I may have to acquiesce to the fact that if they are given enough rope – they will indeed hang themselves.

What has made America great has nothing to do with Europe; however, that is the model I see trumpeted by the Democratic Party. As for me – I like (for example) France, French food, French wine, etc……but I don’t want their country.

I just pray that after 4 years America comes to her senses and elects a true conservative leader who can right this ship. The Republicans have moved so far left it's disgusting. There aren't enough good conservative voices within the party anymore. I just wish enough of the rest of the nation that's fed up with this crap and doesn't like either candidate would vote 3rd party. If that were to happen, the message would be heard. But too many of us will end up voting for one of the two bozo's running for the two most powerful parties and we'll all be screwed over.

From a blogger I often read:

UPDATE- It looks as if McCain just sealed the deal for President Obama. One would think that after nearly getting knocked out of the nomination battle due to his determination to cling to the unpopular immigration amnesty, he would not have been so foolish as to support the incredibly unpopular Wall Street bail-out. Apparently, since that much-hated plan looks like it is failing, McCain decided to prevent every economic conservative from voting for him by upping the socialist ante yet again.

"You know that home values of retirees continues to decline and people are no longer able to afford their mortgage payments. As president of the United States, Alan, I would order the secretary of the treasury to immediately buy up the bad home loan mortgages in America and renegotiate at the new value of those homes -- at the diminished value of those homes and let people be able to make those -- be able to make those payments and stay in their homes.

Is it expensive? Yes. But we all know, my friends, until we stabilize home values in America, we're never going to start turning around and creating jobs and fixing our economy. And we've got to give some trust and confidence back to America."

If you call yourself a conservative and you vote for McCain, you should be aware of two things. First, you are not a conservative. Second, you are an idiot. As I wrote on Monday, only a vote for McCain is a wasted vote because it's the only vote that will not provide you what you think you're going to get. The left-liberal votes for Obama and knows he'll get socialism and multi-culturalism in one way or another. (The pacifist, on the other hand, will be disappointed.) The third-party voter votes third party and knows he'll get nothing. The non-voter doesn't vote and doesn't get what he isn't expecting.

The Republican voter, on the other hand, usually votes for conservatism, constitutional judges and small government, but only gets liberalism, activist judges and big government. That's why it is the Republican vote that is truly the wasted one.

You should read this blogger less often.

Fine and true. I nearly fell out of my fetal position and onto the floor when McCain said this. McCain is not a conservative (as I have already stated) but how is Obama any better? Why would my vote be wasted? Sorry Royal but a third pary won't solve the problem.

I didn't post that to convince anyone to vote 3rd party, but to shed light on the sham of conservatives voting for moderates. At this time, the two ideologies are, IMO, further apart than McCain and Obama.

Until the Republican party offers up a decent candidate (which McCain is not), it will be hard to fulfill your hopes. Ron Paul would have been good. But he doesn't apparently play into the right peoples' hands.

It is time for a third party. I hope maybe this year something comes of it. Maybe the Republican party is gonna have to split in order for this to happen. Maybe a party in the middle of the two would be better? It could take away from both of the parties then.

The reality of today's political climate is that until a 3rd-party candidate is elected president or several are elected to Congress, they will only serve as corrective forces among the Republicrats. What I mean is that if a "conservative" 3P candidate (Baldwin or Barr) gets a good percentage of the vote (say, 5%, 10%, maybe more) the GOP will more strongly pander to the "right".

That's a big reason why Ron Paul has chosen to remain in, and work within the Republican party. What would throw a wrench in the pandering scheme is if true conservatives actually begin to get elected and party power begins to shift.

I would actually prefer a 3rd-party emerge that represented a truly conservative ideology. Let the Dems remain liberal and the GOP embrace the centrists they really are. Our system could use the added check-and-balance a 3rd-party would provide. All just my humble opinion, of course.

What I find ironic is how Ron Paul's economic warnings during the primaries have proven true. Every other candidate laughed at the notion, trying to assure the public that the future looked bright. They laughed at him even bringing up monetary policy and the constitutionality of the Fed. Sadly, no one is laughing now.

With all due respect, a third party is not the answer.

I'm with ya Royal. A third party would help this country out tremendously by taking so much power away from the other two. It would also allow many Americans a stronger voice that actually represents them. I'm still no Ron Paul fan as a whole, but I would love to see a few of the conservatives make the bold move and distance themselves from the Republicans. If they create a new party or move to one of the others I don't care.

There is either going to have to a be true Conservative third-party or somebody is going to have to re-make Republican party.

Conservatives took over the Republican Party once before (in the 1980s) – it can happen again.

I think what many on here are confused about is Kansas is a more conservative state than many of the other Republican states. Maybe you all should form the "Kansas" party. I think that there are enough wack jobs in the Republican party already. We don't need a whole party of them by themselves.

Hopefully the beat down McCain and the Republicans appear likely to take will help move them back to the right and more conservative candidates while arise. I doubt it happens though.
