  • Start of the Obama Police State?

Obama has enlisted prosecutors, sheriffs to monitor campaign adds in Missouri and to target anyone who lies about Barack Hussein Obama with the threat of full prosecuction within the law.

Washington, DC – September 26, 2008 – Barack Obama is now using local law enforcement officials to carry out his campaign of legal intimidation by assembling a group of high-ranking Missouri police officials and prosecutors – including St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCullough and City of St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce – to identify and target anyone the campaign determines is producing “misleading” political advertisements.

“This is an outrageous and shocking attempt by the Obama campaign to again employ Stalinist, police state tactics against those who dare to disagree with Barack Obama,” said Ed Martin, American Issues Projects president. “I am frankly stunned to see public officials like McCullough and Joyce abusing their official prosecutorial positions to serve as attack dogs for a national political campaign. I am quite certain Missourians elected these individuals to enforce the laws and arrest criminals, not to throw people in jail for daring to practicing free speech.

"The Obama campaign continues to provide a chilling preview of what would happen to political freedom in an Obama administration.”

This new effort is only the most recent attempt by the Obama campaign to crack down on free speech. Obama’s lawyers twice demanded the Department of Justice investigate and prosecute the American Issues Project, its officers, board of directors, and donors. The campaign also threatened stations running American Issues Project’s ad in an unsuccessful attempt to compel them to pull the spot, and ran its own ad in response.

Notably, this ad failed to dispute a single fact the American Issues Project has put forth.

Missouri Govenor issues a statement on Obama abusive use of Missouri Law Enforcement.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

Apparently you are an anyone but Obama supporter. Are you arguing that lying in political ads is OK. Anything goes. Are there laws that are being broken? If so shouldn't the law enforcement enforce the laws that are being broken. How is it that Obama would have any pull in Missouri or is this an embellishment on the truth of what is going on?

It shouldn't matter if your a McCain or Obama supporter. Hearing Law Enforcement officials openly saying they are going to use the full support of their office to go after anybody that says something they don't like against their candidate should be a be a cause for concern.

Are you arguing that lying in political ads is OK.
Are you saying all of Obama campaign adds are truthfull?

Was Obama truthful in his spanish language add this week where he linked Senator McCain views to Rush Limbaugh on immigration?

Anybody that follows politics knows that Limbaugh and McCain don't see eye to eye on imigration reform at all. That has been one of McCain problems with "Conservatives".

In fact in the last week, Obama has had five different commercials that have been criticized for misleading or stating untruths about McCain positions by independent fact-checking groups.

Are there laws that are being broken? If so shouldn't the law enforcement enforce the laws that are being broken.
I have no problem with Law Enforcement enforcing the laws. But I do have problem when you have law enforcement officials taking sides and using their position to try an intimidate. Sorry, but that is what happens in 3rd world countries and in Venezuela.

Of course we know the democratic mantra:

I try not to listen/remember any commercial that is one candidate bashing another one. What I want to know is why should I vote for them not why I should not vote for the other guy. To that end I do not like the negative ads by Obama or McCain. I also do not like general statements for change, I am going to cut taxes and drastically cut spending, save the economy and on and on. If you are cutting spending how and where? Are they going to cut the defense spending? how? foreign aid? to whom and how? Maybe the negative and empty promise ads work for most people but I am tired of them and want more. As for lies in commercials they should be illegal and prosecuted no matter who is running them.

I agree. But your not going to get those answers because they know nobody want to hear the truth (except for engineers). That is why both parties and their candidates are bankrupt.
