I got a question - how is talking to the voters about somebody role in the S&L fiasco, or as a participant in the "Keating 5" a smear? I believe they are valid discussion points that a politician has to answer to. McCain has already had to discuss these topics again in this election period.

I guess if he wants to hire an attack dog, previously hired by Bush to chew the crap out of him (and later, Kerry), to now chew the crap out of Obama, then he picked the right dog.
But, if he wants to distance himself from Bush, I would suggest this isn't the way to go about it.
Just another attempt to divert attention from the issues and take the heat off of his choice of "Caribou Barbie" as VP.

What you suggest is pure stupidity. The choice of Lieberman would have ended the McCain run for the presidency.

I think his choice actually does show the maverick in him. It remains to be seen how it all pans out.

Speaking of McCain and Lieberman, here is a quote from the New York Times.

I don't think Lieberman would have ended it. Romney would have though. Lieberman would have actually drawn some of the more conservative Democrats away from Obama. You're telling me that the Christian Conservatives would have voted for Obama instead? I highly, highly doubt it. Lieberman would have helped him with many peole on the middle of the teeter totter.

No, I am not. They would have either voted third party or stayed at home. Any bump that Lieberman might have brought (which I have not seen any data that suggested it would be significant) would not counter the losses, at least IMO.

I don't dislike Lieberman. He strikes me as one of the more honest types who believes in what he does. I believe he's more open to working with others. But had he been on the ticket, there's no way I could have voted for McCain and many would have stayed home or voted 3rd party as SB said.

Well, it seems others in here know I was referring to Lieberman. Funny, I guess we're ALL in that "inner circle." ;-)
I really believed that conservatives would stay with him also, not so much FOR him as AGAINST Obama. But, I guess we'll never know now.
