  • Football at Cessna Stadium

I know, it's not WSU football, but it is quality football:

Past Two NJCAA Champs Open Season at WSU's Cessna Stadium August 28th

The Butler Grizzlies will open defense of their 2007 NJCAA National
Championship by facing 2006 NJCAA national champion Blinn College of
Texas in the "Battle of the Champions. The game will be played at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28 at Cessna Stadium on the Wichita State University campus.

In addition to the game, an alumni picnic is planned as well as a
pregame carnival-like setting that will include inflatables for
children, a demonstration by the Kansas Highway Patrol and other booths
    and displays.

Tickets for the "Battle of Champions" game can be purchased in advance
at the Butler Athletic Department office weekdays 9-5 p.m., or on-line
at www.butlercc.edu. Advance ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5
for students and military personnel with valid ID. Tickets purchased at
Cessna Stadium the day of the game are $10 for adults and $5 for
students and military personnel with ID. Stadium gates will open at
    5:30 p.m.
"If you're going to do it, you're going to do it right," athletic director Jim Schaus said. "If we're going to put 'Wichita State' across our chest, then every team is going to matter."

That could actually be fun. Butler could probably beat some of the D1AA schools. And they probably have more legit D1 talent than a number of the "lesser" D1 schools.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

I got to see the last college game played at Cessna. Pitt St. vs. (does it really matter?, they won.) Very fun to watch college football there.

It is fun times and this game could be a very, very good one. Probably better than alot of the non BCS games that will take place this year.

I would be afraid to sit in the bleachers. First, those hard ass seats would give me hemhroids and second, I'd be preoccupied being scared that the seating will collapse at any moment to enjoy the game.

I believe the bleachers were replaced with new ones not too long ago. They were in good shape the last time I attended an event there. I didn't have any problems with them and I'm muy grande.

Sounds like a cool event. Both of these schools put out several four- and five-star players every year. Butler had three four-star guys go to Okie State just last year. There will be a high level of football being played. They should do more of these.

Preseason numero uno versus dos. Sounds like a match made for a special event. Couldn't have gotten two better teams to play a game at Cessna than these. Either one of them would smoke any of the NAIAs or probably even most of the D2s in the state.

I think this is the way to go about bringing football back to WSU. Perhaps if people can go to a game and witness the excitement in person, they may start thinking; "why aren't we doing this every Saturday and with our own team?"

Just a thought, not a "bring it back or die" statement.
