He did. The jockey held him up on the last turn because he knew he had no chance at placing. I think it was the worst finish by a potential triple crown winning horse in history.

the owner kept shooting his mouth off like Hank Steinbrenner and the owner deserved it. Did they show his face after the race?

I always like to see how the winning horse's time compares with Secretariat's Belmont time. Da' Tara's winning time was 2:29.65. Secretariat's record time was 2:24. So, Secretariat would have won today's race by over 37 lengths. Even the second place horse in the Secretariat race would have won today's race by 4 lengths.

That's an interesting stat! 37 lengths?

Da' Tara averaged just under 53 ft/sec over the 1.5 mile course (1.5 x 5280 ft / 149.65 sec). So 53 ft/sec x 5.65 sec gives approximately 299 ft that Da' Tara would be back when Secretariat crosses the finish line. A horse's length is considered 8 ft, so that is over 37 lengths.

Also, I was thinking that Secretariat had won his race by 33 lengths. It was actually only 31 lengths. So, the second place horse then would have beat Da' Tara by 6 lengths.

Hey, dummy. How would finishing last NOT be the worst finish in history? Last I checked, you can't finish worst than last.

I saw the title of this topic and thought the high fuel prices might have finally done in UPS.
