  • What a crappy day.

First off. I woke up to my 9 month old daughter "talking" to me which is always lovely and for those not in fatherhood its one of the most joyful things you can experience.

Anyways im heading down to Derby for the Derby Twins baseball camp. I signed my 7 yr old for it. As we are about to head to the door I ask my girl for her keys so I can get the baseball bag out of her drunk.
I proceed to go get it AND ITS NOT FREAKING THERE.

We tear up the house WE STILL CANT FIND IT.

Then it hits her. "Oh I never put it in the car yesterday."

    YOU THINK SO!!!!

So anyways We head to the camp because hell I paid the money for it. It works out for him though.
Nobody turns in the equipment and nobody at the field had seen it.

Not only did it contain a bunch of balls and my sons *helmet, bats & glove" But it also had MY glove. Now for those that have played baseball and stuck with it for awhile you were probably like me and have only owned a couple of gloves your whole life. It was BOBBY BONILLA signature series glove. *pittsburgh bobby not new york mets bobby* Ive had that glove since the freaking 80's man. My glove was older than some of these kids playing pro ball. Half of these youngster couldnt even tell me WTF Bobby Bonilla is.

Anyways im pissed. I just got back from Dicks. and spent a good 245 in equipment on money I dont have.
I got my boy 2 new bats. We had to replace his Louisville Slugger A rod Signature bat with a new one - Yes my boy swings wood NO HOMO. We did pick him up a Easton Jolt. Its not a bad bat my any means. There was better but it was 20 bucks and 29 in 21 oz which is just perfect for him. Its not to big of a barrell rather slim but crap hes only 7 yrs old man.

And last of all I had to buy a new glove. Rawlings>>>> Even though im a NIke man my last glove was a rawlings and I love them.

so anyways thanks for letting me vent.

I totally know that father feeling - my 14 month old is such a hoot at trying to say and do things that he really can't. One day he will, though!

As for the rest, well, at least have a chuckle with this:

I'd like to know what else you are keeping in your "drunk".

One of my daughters left my longtime favorite baseball glove at the field once. That old glove leather was soft as a baby's butt. We wen't back and searched high and low with no joy. It's like losing an old friend - I feel your pain, man.

I left my nearly new, $130 tennis racket at the courts a few years back. Never saw it again.

Last time I played golf at McDonald I finished the round and it was 104. I noticed there was no 9 iron in my bag. I asked the guy in the shop to let me know if anyone turned it in. I think you can guess how that worked out.

Last decent baseball glove I owned, I used for one semi-pro season. Just had it broken in with the flex spots just inside the base of the thumb and just inside the last finger. Any ball that hit it - the force of the ball snapped it shut. I went through 1 season with that glove and had 0 errors. I never should have borrowed it to my brother for a softball game. I think you can guess how that worked out.

As long as we're telling glove stories, I have one you would have loved to see. Playing 3rd. Ground ball smash down the line. I got to it and caught it - glove was on the ground. Unfortunately my left foot had no option but to hit the ground at the precise spot where my glove had just caught the ball. Yep, I stepped on my glove while running full speed. On a foul ball. Glove came off my hand and I made about 2 complete somersaults.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I had a Wilson glove I used during the early and mid 70’s that was second to none. I could literally catch any baseball within reach of me from the hot corner… it was amazing the confidence I had when using that glove. After completing my baseball career, I used it for church league softball one summer. I recall playing a game in Valley Center in the summer of 1976 or ‘77 and I left it in an open trunk for 5 minutes while I went to the restroom. Upon my return it was ‘long gone like a turkey in the corn.’ That’s the first time in my life that I had ever had anything stolen from me… it’s a horrible kick-in-the-nuts type of feeling.

A couple of years later I had my car stereo stolen while I was in a class at the U… the guy (s) who stole it was very lucky I didn’t catch him in the act… he would have been 6’ under and I would have spent time in the pen.

Many of people who have seen my glove fell in love with it.

You just can beat a perfectly broke in glove.

My new one is similar to the old one except a bit smaller and its tan. Ive always had a black glove so this takes some getting used to. But nice leather on it as well. Rawlings Gold Glove Elite series.

But my Bobby Bo glove made for quite a few plays in the out and infield.

I still have the Wilson glove I got when I was 8 or 9. But once I started playing softball it was useless so I had to buy a Wilson softball glove. It died two years ago, so I bought a new combo glove, also a Wilson.

                          I like Wilson.

I played baseball above high school, so I have 2 Kelley brand gloves, one for OF and one for INF, both black in color. I've had both for nearly a decade. I don't know what I'd do if I had them stolen or lost....
