  • Greensburg

I just heard reports of a tornado just outside Greensburg. I pray it leaves the town alone. But they could be in for a heck of a night because it appears that there's a lot more weather behind what is now hitting the town.

I hope no town has to go through anything like what they did a year ago and that we can avoid any direct hits this evening. With all the excitement about Ehimen and the Shox dominating the Valley Tourney, we can sometimes forget the everyday things and worries going on with our neighbors.

Some damage 3 miles west of Greensburg.

Wichita under tornado watch until 4am.

I was very concerned when I heard about Protection taking a hit earlier as my Mother has family in that town... it sounds like the damage was minor.

Greensburg had a couple pretty close calls... thankfully everything is ok. Considering how many tornadoes/some violent there were today everyone should be thankful that it looks like no fatalities.

The bad news: Florida still has a lot of tornadoes.

The good news: They're all weak.

        Have fun with Mickey. :good:

Last night was pretty crazy but it sounds like most of the tornadoes were outside of towns and damage was minor. Gotta love this time of year...

As I tell folks new to the area or those who are outside the Great Plains. "Just figure that anytime between April & September you're in a Thunderstorm & Tornado Watch. You'll get used to it"

The response from those from the likes of Southern California

Personally I'll take tornadoes over earthquakes & hurricanes as a regional act of God most any day.

At least we normally know when and where they're coming.

Friday night, when the severe stuff came rolling through, I told her, "I hope somebody from Sunrise has Orukpe over tonight, or the poor guy might be thinking of transferring!"

When I was in the dorms, freaking out the transplants (especially the east coast guys) was a favorite sport. A friend of mine (from Silver Lake) was once asked about tornadoes, and he replied with, "Oh, a good tornado will only take out 2, 3 hundred people. Tops."

The NY guys were the best. Not only did they not know how to deal with weather, but they couldn't drive, making them, for all practical purposes, useless for daily life in Wichita.
