  • US paper money ruled discriminatory (!)

Had to mention this one. A federal appeals judge has ruled that having all money the same size and shape discriminates against the blind.

I don't have any particular opinion about this but I think this is a great opportunity to see how our legal system works. Blind people are at a disadvantage w.r.t. money. On the other hand, changing the currency would be a pain. Who wins? It should be interesting to watch.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

We'll be going to more distinct coinage (word?) that are in the same increments as common paper money. Of course I'm speculating but it's an off-topic internet bulletin board...

It will cost way too much to change the monetary system now. Maybe the blind should just use debit cards instead. J/K but it would be a good alternative to changing the money around.

We could always go to a plastic only society. Whenever I shop, I don't use cash. I just use my Checkcard. And I always pay my bills online. That would solve the problem.

I love my cash and prefer to spend it. That way I can't buy what I can't afford. :D I understand what they're trying to say here but this is going too far. Our society needs a lot of help.

You can't go to just coins because then things get really heavy and you have people filing lawsuits because they have a bad back because of the money. Plastic won't work because too many people would find ways to get into even more trouble. The blind could still get taken advantage of that way anyhow.

Then the lawsuit would be that all CC's are the same size...how are they supposed to tell which one is which?

The link above was for the original ruling. Here is the link where the ruling was upheld.

I fully expected when reading your initial post and opening your link that I'd see a reference to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Anyways, it seems we no longer elect representatives to make educated decisions for us. We now are subject to life-long appointed "officials" who make decisions for us in a literal vacuum.

I'm moving to Alaska. I'll be like the kid from Into The Wild only with a better plan- like a couple sides of beef, nice RV and a helicopter at my disposal.

I do not believe anyone is requesting a change of our monetary system.

I think they should make our currency into like those talking cards.

Also, we need talking cash registers for the blind also. In fact what about the automakers - why have they not made cars for the blind people to drive?

The travesty's!!!!! - when will they ever stop.
