  • Pacquiao vs Horn

    Thoughts?

Not a big boxing fan at all, but I was interested in watching tonight and I really enjoyed the fight. Until the decision.

    I don't understand boxing apparently.

But Manny Pacquiao is as classy a person as I've ever seen. NO ATHLETE would take a loss with that much grace.

Maybe Barry Sanders......ok, probably Barry Sanders but not many more. Crazy.

Excellent fight, great for television, absolutely atrocious decision - there needs to be an investigation of the judge who had Horn at 117 as he is either blind or (more likely) paid off.

Looking forward to the rematch between these two. It is fun having premier fights on ESPN this summer.

It seems like every other big fight there is a huge controversy with the judging or scoring but people don't quite seem to learn. The sport is corrupt and if you don't think something fishy is going to happen with Mayweather/McGregor then you haven't been paying attention.

I enjoyed the fight and was looking forward to the other fights on ESPN, not so sure now... I have heard some arguments that people just don't understand judging, which I find laughable. Even if that were the case, if a neutral can watch an event of your sport, come to a very clear conclusion on who won, and be told they were completely wrong, then your sport is broken and needs to change.

Watched the fight. Thought it as very close. I did think Pacquiao won but wasn't shocked it went the other way. Aggressiveness counts for a lot in boxing. Teddy Atlas annoyed me. I know a little about boxing as a young man I was a sparring partner for a 2-time national golden glove winner. The 117 to 111 score was crazy. This fight was boxing's way of saying, Manny, you are one of the greats but time has caught up to you. I believe any other younger fighter in the top 5 would have knocked Horn out.
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

So being less familiar, why does ineffective aggressiveness matter? Also if aggressiveness matters, how has Floyd remained undefeated? Honest questions because at least looking from the outside it seems boxing has a fundamental problem. To me it's akin to being an aggressive basketball team attacking the basket only to have shots altered by a center.

Horn wasnt as ineffective as many thought. He controlled the tempo of the fight and its very hard to see if punches were connecting. It appears the judges thought they were more than Teddy Atlas. Mayweather is a great boxer his skill is in outboxing his opponent. When you add in the fight was in Brisbane you can see why the outcome was as it was. I dont expect Horn to wear the belt for long.

That Terrence Crawford kid from Omaha was purported to be looking down the road for a fight with Pacquiao. Manny may be just getting too old.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

pacquiao outlanded/outpointed him clearly. but he was so undersized, horn just kept coming forward with pressure (except for the 9th, when pacquiao really teed off on horn). but manny was bleeding so badly from the headbutts, only.. looked beat.. i think that kind of affected the decision. good fight and i hope the rematch is on espn (probaly won't be though).
